His death came as a shock to his family and friends, as he had apparently been in average health for a man of his years. He had been living with his son Wm. Schievelbein and members of the family thought he had laid down on the porch to rest, but upon investigation, he was found to be in a coma, from which he never regained consciousness. Mr. Schievelbein came to Gosper county in 1881, where he homesteaded on the farm now occupied by his son Herman. Two daughters, Mrs. Henry Monter and Mrs. William Lollman, and two sons, Herman and William Schievelbein reside in this community. One son preceded him in death. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. The funeral services will be held (Friday) tomorrow afternoon at 2:30. An obituary will be published next week. ********** Source: Arapahoe [Nebraska] Public Mirror, May 17, 1934, p. 1, col. 4 Obituary Julius Schievelbein was born December 26 [28],1842 in the village of Birkholz, Province of Pommerania, Germany, where he was also baptised, instructed and confirmed into the Lutheran faith. As a man in middle age he emigrated to America together with other relatives and neighbors in the year 1874 and settled in Washington county, Nebraska near Arlington. Here he came under the spiritual care of the sainted pastor, Julius Freese, pioneer Lutheran pastor in Nebraska. By him he was united in the bonds of Holy Wedlock to Albertina Louise Dahms on December 18, 1875. To this union five children were born: Mrs. Wm. Lollman, Wm. Schievelbein, Mrs. Henry Monter, Herman Schievelbein and Bernhard Schievelbein, deceased. Mrs. Schievelbein died January 24, 1898. Sixteen grandchildren and 1 great grandchild, also many nieces and nephews, survive him. Two grandchildren have preceded him in death. In the spring of 1881, Mr. Schievelbein came to Gosper county to take up a homestead in the Elk Creek community. The remainder of his days with the exception of a brief stay in Arapahoe was spent in this neighborhood, at first on the old home place and the closing years with his son William. He was one of the charter members of Immanuel Lutheran congregation, helping to organize it in the year 1882. This membership he retained until his death. On the 9th day of May shortly before the dinner hour he was summoned from this life, cause of death being a stroke. He reached the ripe old age of 92 years, 4 months and 13 days. Burial service at Immanuel Lutheran church and committal at the church cemetery on Friday, May 11th. Pallbearers were Emil Bloch, Wm. Wendland, K. F. J. Wendland, Fred Ziebell, Herman Ziebell and Herbert Schievelbein. CARD OF THANKS We wish to extend sincere thanks to our friends and neighbors for their kindness and sympathy in our late bereavement.
