Description	:	Julius, known as Jute, Knop was born March 9, 1929, the son of Fred and Alma Ullrich Knop. He died on Tuesday, January 2, 2001, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa, at the age of seventy-one, after a courageous battle with cancer. Jute was born on a farm near Charter Oak, Iowa and was baptized in Christ March 31, 1929 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Soldier Township, Charter Oak and later confirmed there April 18, 1943. He died on Tuesday, January 2, 2001, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa, at the age of seventy-one, after a courageous battle with cancer. Jute was born on a farm near Charter Oak, Iowa and was baptized in Christ March 31, 1929 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Soldier Township, Charter Oak and later confirmed there April 18, 1943. He received his education at Immanuel Lutheran School, Soldier Township. After completing his education he farmed and did custom combining. On September 22, 1956, Jute was united in marriage to Ina Evans in Wichita, Kansas. The couple settled on a farm in Soldier Township, where they farmed until 1967, when they moved to a farm north of Denison. Jute was a life long member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Charter Oak, the Soybean Association and the Ricketts Community Club. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother who enjoyed his family and friends. He enjoyed pheasant hunting and was an avid fisherman. Jute and Ina started the "Knop's Quilting", where he enjoyed quilting. In his leisure time, Jute loved socializing with his many friends and playing Euchre. In his younger years he enjoyed playing softball and was on the Ricketts, Charter Oak and Kiron men's softball teams and played till age forty-five. Jute was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Mona Gierstorf and his father-in-law, Glen Evans. Survivors include his wife, Ina of Denison; one son, Charles and his wife, Sharon of Lebanon, Missouri; one daughter, Virginia Vanga of San Mateo, California; four grandchildren, Teresa Prince and her husband, Shannon of Lebanon, Missouri, Alysa de Waard and her husband, Robert of Hollister, California, Milissa Benton and her husband, Joel of Lebanon, Missouri, and Alexander Vanga of Redwood City, California; three great-grandchildren, Brianne, Jenna and Kristin Prince; five sisters, Evelyn Lively of Salina, Kansas, Mildred Melvin and her husband, John of Belton, Texas, Florence Hopp and her husband, Edwin of Charter Oak, Ruth Bruhn and her husband, Dale of Mapleton, and Phyllis Dinsdale and her husband, Norman of Utah; three brothers, Frederick Knop and his wife, Evelyn of Prairie Village, Kansas, Herb Knop and his wife, Beatrice of Ida Grove and Gene Knop and his wife, Colleen of Ida Grove; one brother-in-law, Reinhard Gierstorf of Denison; his mother-in-law, Lydia Evans of Denison; many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 5, 2001, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Soldier Township, Charter Oak, Iowa. Rev. Eugene Ernst officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. Sandra Hammerlind provided the organ accompaniment as she and Diane Witt sang "How Great Thou Art" and congregational hymns "My Faith Looks up to Thee" and "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing". Honorary pallbearers were Bob Riessen, John Curnyn, John Larson, Terry Skarin, Elroy Koch and Gary Knief. Pallbearers were Dave Friedrichsen, Lonny Schmadeke, Jim Lindstrom, Kevin Lafrentz, Dale Gronau and Val Buchanan. The family invited everyone in attendance at the service to join them in fellowship and lunch at the church, served by the Ladies Aid. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.
