He was born Aug. 15, 1928, at Pfeifer to Joseph A. and Josephine (Pfannenstiel) Urban. He married Ann Tinkel on May 2, 1951, at Dubuque. He was an auto mechanic for O'Connell Motor Co., Great Bend, for 45 years, retiring in 1993. He had been a resident of Hoisington since moving from Antonino in 1942. Survivors include his wife, of the home; two sons, Thomas and Kevin, both of Hoisington; two daughters, Geneva Applebee and Patty "Tricia" Polzin, both of Hoisington; four brothers, Melvin, Ellinwood, Ervin, Garden City, Aresenius "Tony," Seward, and Joe Jr., Dodge City; six sisters, Lillian Beck, Hoisington, Johanna Brodie, Great Bend, Delores Harris, Lorraine Wedman and Alberta Klein, all of Wichita, and Twila Kush, Colorado Springs, Colo.; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandson. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Hoisington; burial in St. John Cemetery, Hoisington. Visitation is until 9 p.m. today and from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, Hoisington. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society or the church.
