Julius Kirschenmann was born October 29, 1924, to Gottlieb & Magdalena (Bertsch) Kirschenmann in Eureka, SD. He entered the Army in 1944 and served in the South Pacific, Carolinas, Marshall Islands and the Philippines as a Military Policeman. He served in the Occupational Forces in Japan. Julius was honorably discharged in 1946 receiving the Victory Medal, Army of Occupation Medal (Japan), Good Conduct Medal and Asiatic Pacific Service Medal. On June 30, 1950, he was united in marriage to Mavis Alberts in Aberdeen. He began work at Aberdeen Motors in 1948 working in all departments. In 1958, he and Stuart Manning purchased Aberdeen Motors. He became sole owner of the dealership in 1968. He was very instrumental in getting the Aberdeen Auto Plaza started. He received many distinguished dealer awards from Chrysler Motor Corporation. He served on the Chrysler Dealer Council and Chrysler Advertising Agency. He also served on the South Dakota Auto Dealer’s Board of Directors. In 1985, he received the South Dakota Quality Dealer Award. He sold his car dealership in 1988 to the Rydell Corporation which then became known as Aberdeen Chrysler Center. After retirement he and his wife enjoyed 15 winters in Sun City West, Arizona and on their 50th wedding anniversary took a trip around the world on the Concorde. Julius was a lifetime Elks member, a VFW member and a lifetime board member of the Salvation Army. He was a member of Plymouth Congregational Church for 67 years and served on many church boards. He is survived by his wife, Mavis and 26 nieces and nephews. Julius was preceded in death by his parents, Gottlieb and Magdalena Kirschenmann and six brothers: Ray, Arthur, Henry, Edward, Emanuel, and Karl.
