June graduated from Norfolk (NE.) High School with the class of 1953 and then attended Norfolk (NE.) Junior College and worked at the Norfolk Regional Center, Norfolk, NE. June married Richard H. Carstens on July 22, 1956 at Trinity Episcopal Church, Norfolk, NE. June stayed at home and raised her children before working at Dale Electronics for a year and then graduated from Northeast Technical Community College as a Licensed Practical Nurse. June worked as an LPN for 18 years at the Norfolk (NE.) Regional Center until her retirement. June was a member of St Paul's Lutheran Church in Winside, NE. and later Our Savior Lutheran Church. She was a member of Tabitha, Neighboring Circle, BC Club and was a Sunday school teacher and VBS teacher. June is survived by: children and their families, Greg Carstens of Norfolk, Jeff and Mary Carstens, Eric and Emma of Wayne, Curt and Lisa Carstens, Sam of O'Neill, Dawn and Ken Stephens, Derek and Allie of Hiawatha, Kansas, Joel and Mary Beth Carstens, Claire of Ewing, New Jersey, and David and Ann Carstens, Morgan, Chris, Leslie and Phillip of Meadow Grove, sister in-law Janet Lee of St. Paul, MN, brothers and sisters in law Dean and Sharon Carstens of Norfolk, Barb Carstens of Hoskins, Harry Dohren of Wisner, Jack and Annette Carstens, Clark and Nancy Bauer, and Mary Otto all of Lincoln, and Gloria Carstens of York and a host of relatives and friends. Her husband Dick was the love of her life and their marriage and love for one another was one of the greatest gifts they gave to their children. She and Dick treasured spending time with their family; of special importance was attending the activities of their children and grandchildren. Education and learning were of life-long importance to June and she inspired this value in her children. June was preceded in death by her parents, husband Richard, May 2008, brother Mark Vaught, sister Emily Wyman, sister in law Ethel Dohren, and brothers in law George Carstens, LeRoy Carstens and Bruce Otto. Interment was in the Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery, Norfolk, NE.
