Mrs. Haskins was the valedictorian of her 1943 graduating class of Hamilton High School. Fee Haskins, 85, of Hamilton died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2011, at DeKalb Memorial Hospital in Auburn. Mrs. Haskins was the valedictorian of her 1943 graduating class of Hamilton High School. After being out of school for 25 years, she attended the University of Saint Francis in Fort Wayne where she received her bachelor's degree, master's degree and administrative license. She graduated as valedictorian, summa cum laude, with a 4.0 GPA. A passionate teacher, she taught 14 years at Pleasant Lake Elementary School. She then became principal for nine years at Pleasant Lake Elementary and later at Hendry Park Elementary of Angola. A Master Gardener, she was well known for her beautiful flowers and vegetable garden. She was a lifetime member of the Hamilton United Methodist Church. She was also an environmental activist for the Hamilton Waste Watchers where she was very instrumental in the fight and closing of the local landfill. She was born June 20, 1925, in Fort Wayne to Howard and Francis (Kuryvial) Keck. They both preceded her in death. She was raised by C.M. and Myra Barr, and they both preceded her in death. She married Fred W. Fee on April 17, 1968. He died July 29, 1990. She then married George Haskins Sr. on Nov. 14, 1992, and he survives in Hamilton. Also surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, James and Ruth Haskins of St. Louis, Mo.; a daughter, Pat Waters of Hamilton; two stepsons and their spouses, George Jr. and Janice Haskins of Auburn, and Terry and Marcia Haskins of Waterloo; a stepdaughter and her spouse, Linda and Dave Rodebaugh of Auburn; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. She was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Richard Waters; two brothers; and four sisters, including, Henrietta (Barr) Rupple, Marguerite Barr, and Georgeanna (Barr) Blecha. Services will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Hamilton United Methodist Church, Hamilton. Burial will be in Hamilton Cemetery. Calling will be from 3-8 p.m. Thursday at Feller and Clark Funeral Home, Waterloo, and also from 2-3 p.m. Friday at the Hamilton United Methodist Church. Memorials may be directed to the Hamilton United Methodist Church.
