Interment in the family plot in Rockwell, Iowa. June was born near Mason City, Iowa into a farming family which raised livestock, and was well known for their excellent turkeys, and Percheron horses. Being a horse lover all her life, her home was accented with horses in sculpture, embroidery, in books, and in photos she took of horses she observed throughout her European travels. Since real horses wouldn’t fit into her living room, she downsized to Chihuahuas, and had several Chihuahua companions over the next 70 years which were a great comfort for her. June pushed the boundaries of convention, and fought for equal pay for equal work in an era which was not receptive. Although motherhood derailed her dreams of being a fashion designer, she always found a way to artistically express herself, whether it was in her stylish dressing with matching shoes, purses and jewelry for every occasion, in her artistic sketches and paintings, creative cooking, sewing, or music, and she turned her passion for fashion into a side business, sewing custom wedding and bridesmaids dresses, formalwear, suits and home décor. Her license plate, SEW4U2, was showing up in fabric store parking lots on a weekly basis. Always interested in learning, June took fashion design, pattern making, fur remodeling, and tailoring classes which bore fruit in thousands of custom-made garments. She also earned many 1st place ribbons at the Wisconsin State Fair for her sewing. June had many interests and pursued them with gusto. She was a lap scorer at the stock car races in the 1950’s and 1960’s and enjoyed the company of the professional race drivers. She earned her private pilot’s license and flew in the Powder Puff Derby International Air Race with Dr Anne Roethke to Bimini, Eleuthera and Andros Island in the Bahamas with the Ninety-Nines, an all-female flying club, in the early 1960’s. Travel presented many interesting experiences, such as being stopped by armed guerrillas during a period of unrest in Guatemala in the 1960s; she later recalled that gave her heart a flutter of fear. She traveled with her daughter to New York for the World’s Fair, had cocktails at the Copacabana, dined at the 21 Club and enjoyed Broadway theatre. On European travels, she enjoyed the oarsman’s singing of “O Solo Mio” in the Blue Grotto on the Isle of Capri, climbed the Eiffel Tower in Paris, explored the Roman Colosseum with its army of cats, and bravely experienced the ‘adventure of dining’ throughout Europe. On her trip to Greece, she chastised the hotelier for leaving her room heat off, insisting she was an old lady; rebuked, he quickly turned the heat on. June was never too shy to speak her mind. June always had an artistic eye to frame a good shot—mostly of horses, but sometimes of interesting architecture, and her photos of colorful umbrellas on the beach below the Amalfi Drive in Italy were published in The Milwaukee Journal. Rushing to participate in life, June regretted never finishing high school, but she was always intellectually curious. She was a numbers gal, and her interests ranged from , Numismatics to Numerology, Keno to Mind Control, from Cooking to Gardening, from DIY projects to Stocks, and while adding new interests, she left behind the residual evidence of her life’s journey. June’s long career as a bookkeeper and office manager in the auto business ranged from manual double entry, to the clunky mechanical Burroughs machinery to modern computers, as she continued to learn and grow. June had a mercurial mind and enjoyed challenging herself to be on the leading edge of technology from her early years building transistor radios in a factory, to teaching herself to digitize photographs into embroidery designs which she stitched on clothing, towels etc. She did bookkeeping for many car dealers in the Milwaukee area, from Peugeot/Renault, to Nash/Rambler, to Chrysler/Plymouth, to Chevrolet/Pontiac, and retired from Renner Oldsmobile at age 66. In later years, she enjoyed family travels in Europe, spending time with her beloved grandson and sharing creative projects with her two precious great-granddaughters. In her youth, June had to satisfy herself with the Big Band records, then Sinatra, Elvis, and Montovani, of course, but once she had the wherewithal, she bought herself an organ and taught herself to play it. Over the years, she traded up to the current Lowry Organ, with its dual keyboards, colorful lights, multiple pedals, cassette recorder, and array of percussion and musical options. The love of music runs in the family, with daughter playing classical piano, grandson playing base guitar in a band at one time, and great granddaughters singing blues and current music. Throughout life, as June developed new interests, she never let loose of things from the past and at the end of her 89 years she left a legacy of the material remnants from all those interesting years, such as her flight logs, hundreds of recipe books, multiple sewing machines and books, and rooms full of fabric. She took seriously the seamstresses’ mantra, “She who dies with the most fabric wins”. June had a life full of many experiences, memories, and accumulated “stuff”. Her final life chapter was obscured by Alzheimer’s disease which was particularly cruel for a person whose mind had always been sharp and agile. June spent her last 4 years in the care of her daughter and son-in-law in the year-round sunshine of Lake Elsinore, CA. While having her birthday cake, being told she was 89 years old that day, she momentarily emerged from behind the black curtain of Alzheimers to state, “That’s too old”, and passed from this life 2 weeks later on 6/23/2017, leaving behind the physical body which was no longer useful to her. Within a few minutes of her passing, she appeared to her daughter with a joyous smile on her face, dark brown hair, wearing make-up, jewelry, kicking up her heels in her favorite teal taffeta dancing dress… and then she was gone.~ 'A tribute to June Boyle provided by Evans Brown Mortuaries
