June Marjorie Sohl, 90, of Columbus, died Thursday, Dec. 9, 2010, at the Golden Living Center in Columbus. She was born Sept. 18, 1920, to Charles and Emma (Weigle) Claasen on the family farm north of Hooper. She graduated from Hooper High School in May 1937. June wanted to be a nurse, but it was not to be. She married Henry G. Sohl on Sept. 20, 1939, at the Claasen farm. Henry's father, the Rev. Ezra H. Sohl, performed the ceremony. June Marjorie Sohl, 90, of Columbus, died Thursday, Dec. 9, 2010, at the Golden Living Center in Columbus. She was born Sept. 18, 1920, to Charles and Emma (Weigle) Claasen on the family farm north of Hooper. She graduated from Hooper High School in May 1937. June wanted to be a nurse, but it was not to be. She married Henry G. Sohl on Sept. 20, 1939, at the Claasen farm. Henry's father, the Rev. Ezra H. Sohl, performed the ceremony. To this union, eight children were born: Keith D., Robert H., Phyllis J., George C., Annita J., Mary L., Mark T. and Henry G. Jr. (Hank). June loved the out of doors. During her youth she helped her father on the farm working with the horses, milking cows and climbing to the top of the windmill. After she married, there was always an enormous garden and lots of animals. She loved to read and always had more books than necessary. She finally was able to be a nurse when in her 70s and 80s she was always helping "old people" who lived in the leisure home. She was a member of the United Methodist Church for 71 years. She was a woman of great energy and determination and had a wonderful sense of humor. Survivors include: six of her children, Robert H. of Benedict; Phyllis J. (and husband, Lloyd) Bartholomew of Columbus; Annita J. (and husband, Michael) Tripple of Cheyenne, Wyo.; Mary L. of Linwood; Mark T. of Arizona and Henry (Hank) G., Jr. (and wife, Bonnie) of Cheyenne, Wyo.; her brother, Donald C. Claasen (and wife, Joyce) of Mitchell, N.D.; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry, in March 1975; her son, George C., who died in a house fire at the age of 11 months in April 1948; and oldest son, Keith D. in June 1999. The funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at United Methodist Church in Benedict. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Monday at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus and 9:30 a.m. Tuesday until service time at the church in Benedict. Burial will be at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Benedict where her body will rest next to her husband and infant son. Her soul is already in heaven with the Lord. McKown Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. |
