Description	:	June Rose (Sallach) Bentley of Albion, Nebraska, passed away Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at Nye Legacy Health in Fremont, Nebraska. June, daughter of James Austin and Iva Ethel (Houtz) Sallach was born June 26, 1915 on her mother's family farm southwest of Albion, Nebraska. June, daughter of James Austin and Iva Ethel (Houtz) Sallach was born June 26, 1915 on her mother's family farm southwest of Albion, Nebraska. June attended Roselma District 21 through the 8th grade, graduating in 1928 with top honor in the county examinations. In 1932 she graduated as Valedictorian of her Albion (NE.)High School Class. She taught school in District 85, 2 and 21 for 7 years and attended summer school at Wayne State (NE.) College. June was united in marriage to Robert Daniel Bentley on June 26, 1939 at Omaha, NE. After their marriage, the couple lived northeast of Primrose, Nebraska for 6 years. During this time they were active in the Primrose (NE.) Presbyterian Church and June organized the neighborhood club. In 1945, they purchased a farm west of Albion, Nebraska. In 1957, Dan's health forced him to give up farming and June went back to teaching in District 13 (for 18 years) where she established the Rural School Track Day. They still made their home on the farm, just renting out the land. They also enjoyed traveling many places together. Dan passed away on July 11, 1971, 2 weeks before June graduated magna cum laude from Wayne State (NE.) College with a BAE degree. She began teaching at Primrose, Nebraska in 1976. She continued traveling and did much library cataloguing for the schools. In 1983, June retired from the teaching field after 33 years of service. She then assisted with genealogical research for 2 books besides writing of church and school histories. She continued to live on the farm until she moved to the Samaritan Estates Assisted Living, Albion, Nebraska where she remained actively researching the Civil War Veterans of Boone County and was known to many as "The Birthday Card Lady". Earlier this year, she moved to the Nye Legacy Home, Fremont, Nebraska. June was a member of the United Methodist Church, Albion, Nebraska active in many of its organizations. She served as vice-president of B.C.E.A., a school board member, and superintendent of fruit and flowers at the Boone County, Nebraska Fair. In 2007, she was the recipient of the Valiant Woman Award by the Church Women United. June is survived by: nieces: Linda and husband Robert McCauley of Cedar Bluffs, Nebraska and Lynne and husband Dr. Tim Baller of Sioux City, Iowa; nephew Dean Bentley and wife Mavis of Albion, Nebraska; 7 great nieces and nephews; 14 great-great nieces and nephews and a host of relatives and friends. June was preceded in death by: parents; husband, Robert Daniel Bentley; sister, Irma Casper and brothers, Dr. Henry James Sallach and infant brother. Interment was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Albion, Nebraska.
