He was born on July 4, 1924, in Jackson Township, Lee County, the son of J. C. (Jay) Lewis Sr. and Ethel May Stephenson Lewis. Lewis, Jr., 76, of Keokuk, died at 4:39 a.m. Monday, Oct. 16, 2000, at River Hills Village in Keokuk. He was born on July 4, 1924, in Jackson Township, Lee County, the son of J. C. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Eleanor (Snooky); a brother, Charles Lewis; two sons, Gary Lee Lewis and Charles Elmer(Corky); and three grandsons, Gerald Mortimer Jr. Wayne Kettering and Billy Sigler Jr. He worked as an automotive mechanic, bookkeeper and had received his pastoral as a Baptist minister. Mr.Lewis was a lifelong resident of Iowa residing in and around the Keokuk area. Funeral services are at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Barr Memorial Chapel in Fort Madison. Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery, Fort Madison. Visitation is after 1 p.m. Wednesday with family meeting friends from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established.
