Junior was born to Arthur and Mae (Nelson) Iverson on March 4, 1924 at the farm in Norway Township southwest of Meckling, SD. Read More	Junior Nelson Iverson passed away on June 25, 2019 at the Sanford Health Care Center in Vermillion where he’d been living since April, 2019. Junior was born to Arthur and Mae (Nelson) Iverson on March 4, 1924 at the farm in Norway Township southwest of Meckling, SD. The roads were quite muddy that day and the doctor’s car became stuck on the way to the farm and was not able to get there in time for Junior’s arrival. In the following years, Junior was baptized and confirmed at Bergen Lutheran Church in Norway Township. He attended Norway School 33; located near his home, through all eight grades, in 1942 he graduated from University High School in Vermillion. He volunteered and served in the army for a time but was discharged in 1945 due to an injured foot. On January 24, 1947, at Bergen Lutheran Church, Junior married Maxine Joyce Severson. Two children, Mary Ann and Bruce were born to this union. In July 1956, Junior and Tom Chaney took a boat trip from Vermillion to New Orleans in a fifteen foot boat with a 30 HP motor. They launched from the Missouri River west of Vermillion and made their way east and south to the Mississippi River and then to New Orleans. The boat burned 320 gallons of gasoline and used 17 gallons of oil on the trip which lasted seven days. Junior worked for the Chevrolet garage and was made shop foreman in 1954. He worked for three owners for a total of 23 years. In 1968 Junior began work for Mr. Jack Stewart, owner of the Ford garage and held that position for 22 years. During this time he became an avid trap shooter and shot about 5,000 rounds a year. He helped with the moving of the trap shooting grounds and the building of several new structures at the new location. In 1991 he had to give up his trap shooting due to health reasons and retired that same year from his work at the garage. Junior was a farmer at heart and farmed in the evenings during his working years and for several years after his retirement. He continued living at his house on the river for as long as possible before moving to Welcov, an assisted living facility in Elk Point, SD in 2014. Survivors include; Bruce (Lee) Iverson and grandchildren, Seth Iverson, Anne (Simpson) Hunt (Brandon), Luke Simpson (Julianne) and great grandchildren, Wesley and Chloe Hunt and Goldie and Conner Simpson, one sister, Audrey Schmidt of Minnesota and, cousin and care taker, Lois Kay (Fluent) Maskell of Maskell, NE. Junior was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Maxine in 2013, his daughter Mary Ann in 2008, two brothers, Wayne and Milo Iverson, one sister, Lois Ellis and his parents Art and Mae Iverson. Kober Funeral Home of Vermillion is entrusted with the services.
