Read More	Military Services For Jurgen "Jurg" Tjaden Jurgen "Jurg" Tjaden of Eldora, Iowa, passed away on Friday, May 31, 1996, at the Eldora Regional Medical Center in Eldora, Iowa, of natural causes having attained the age of 78 years, 8 months, and 6 days. Jurg was born on September 25, 1917, in Wellsburg, Iowa, the son of Souke and Triente (Assing) Tjaden. He grew up in Wellsburg and graduated from Wellsburg High School. He served in the United States Army 34th Red Bull Division in World War II until being wounded in Africa. He was a recipient of a Purple Heart Medal. Following his return to the United States, he was employed by John Deere Tractor works in Waterloo. After moving to Eldora, he was employed at Vilmont Furniture Store and then served as City Clerk in Eldora for many years. He enjoyed his free time, spending much of it camping, working on his genealogy, traveling throughout the United States and Europe, and helping others. He loved being outside and working with his hands. Jurg was a member of the Walter-Sayer American Legion Post #182 and the First United Methodist Church in Eldora. He was a founding member of the Eldora Kiwanis Club and enjoyed a lifetime active membership with that club. He was a past president of the Eldora School Board. He was united in marriage with Marian Schaa on July 25, 1943, and to this marriage was born three children; Diane, Tim, and Susan. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Margaret. Survivors include two daughters, Diane Thompson and husband, Dr. Robert of Clear Lake, Iowa, and Susan Breed and husband, Dick, of Marshalltown; one son, Tim Tjaden of Eldora, Iowa; three devoted grandchildren, Brad and Aggie Thompson, and Andy Tjaden; one sister, Geraldine Cohen of Tucson, Arizona; a special friend, Edith Janssen of Eldora; and several nieces, nephews, and many friends. Funeral services were held on Monday, June 3, 1996, at the First United Methodist Church in Eldora, Iowa, with burial following in the Wellsburg Reformed Church Cemetery in Wellsburg with full military graveside rites conducted by the Walter-Sayer American Legion Post #182. The Reverend Tom Balm officiated. Memorials may be directed to the family.
