Justin Dean Burnison, son of Robert Burnison and Lynell (Slaybaugh) Burnison, was born on Dec. 2, 1973, in Aberdeen, S.D. Justin grew up in Sioux City. He enjoyed participating in soccer, T-Ball, TaeKwonDo, hockey, skateboarding, tennis and cycling. He shared his love of classic cars and motorcycles with his dad. In high school, he worked alongside his family at Chick-Fil-A which helped develop his interpersonal skills for his future career in sales. He graduated from North High School in Sioux City and also the University of South Dakota. In July 1999, Justin married Angie Haitz. They met at Central Baptist Church in Sioux City. After they married, they lived in Atlanta for a short time, and then moved to Omaha where they resided for most of their marriage. Together they had two children, Jonah and Avery. They divorced in 2020. Throughout his life, Justin enjoyed music, especially playing the guitar. He was the bassist for the Heartland Community Baptist Church Tree of Life band in Sioux City. Justin is survived by his son, Jonah Burnison of Omaha, and daughter, Avery Burnison of Sioux Falls, S.D.; ex-wife Angie Burnison; sister Nicole (Ed) Emery of Omaha; nephew Jared Emery and niece Carena Emery both of Omaha; aunts Diane (Ray) Waldner of Worthington, Minn., LeeAnn (Dale) Pack of Hillsboro, Ore., and Kathy Uecker of Council Bluffs, Iowa; and many other family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lynell and Robert Burnison. The family has requested that remembrances be made in the form of contributions to help support Justin's children, Jonah and Avery Burnison. [Source: Sioux City Journal; March 3, 2022]
