(Coffey County, Kansas marriage index) Margaret's first husband, John Quakenbush, served in Co. A of the 85th Indiana Infantry from August of 1862 until June of 1865. They are recorded together in the 1875 Hampden, Coffey, Kansas state census with William age 2, born in Missouri, and an infant daughter, born in Kansas. Margaret is recorded with Justin Hammond in the 1885 Hampden, Coffey, Kansas State census. William Quackenbush is recorded as age 12 and Friona Quackenbush, age 10. Irvin P. Hammond, age 2, and Fred Hammond, age 1, are listed, as well as Eleazer Hammond, age 77, born in New York. Chauncy Hammond appears on the next pages of this report. Ancestry family information records the dates of Eleazer Hammond (IV) with birth 18 Jan 1808 in Washington County, New York, and death 28 Jul 1885 in Coffey County, Kansas. The 1885 Kansas state census has a printed date of 1 Mar 1885. Margaret Rohr married John Quackenbush 21 Feb 1869 in Parke County, Indiana. The grave of John Quackenbush has not been located, but he was not the John buried at Leavenworth. Family information states that he died in Vermillion County, Indiana in 1876. Justin Hammond and Margaret were the parents of at least six children. Their ages in 1895 were as follows: Irvin P., 12; Fred, 10; Laura, 8; Eli, 6; Bertha, 4; & Arza, a son, 2. The bio and obituary of Eli J. Hammond state that Justin was his brother; however, the census reports do not support this. Justin Hammond's grave is recorded in a survey of veterans buried in Coffey County, Kansas, in this cemetery. The survey was published in 1962 by Mrs. C. J. Garrett.
