Doran, known to have been the largest individual land owner in Boone County passed away Monday afternoon at his home south of Beaver. Death was caused from heart trouble which he has been suffering from for the past three weeks. Mr. Doran passed away just at 5:30 in the presence of all his surviving children with the exception of Lucien, who resides near Luther. Lucien was on his way to his parent's home having been summoned when it was known the end was near. Mr. Doran is survived by his wife, eight sons and three daughters. The family have the sympathy of a wide circle of friends, not only in Beaver township, this county and city, but over the state in the death of their husband and father. The funeral services were held at the home near Beaver, Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Interment was made in the Beaver cemetery. Known for his sturdy pioneer virtues, the Beaver patriarch won his way to a high place in the esteem of his neighbors and friends in this county. He came to Boone County about 50 years ago and settled near his present home at Beaver. His thrift and business acumen resulted in the accumulation of extensive property holdings. In Boone county alone his farm land holding were reported to be about 3000 acres making him the largest land owner in the county and one of the wealthiest in the state. Judicious management, incessant labor, and modern and up to date methods were the means by which Mr. Doran attained his prosperity, said a biographer several years ago. In political affairs Mr. Doran was a faithful member of the Republican Party and his service to his party and community was rewarded with election twice as a member of the House of Representatives of the Iowa General Assembly and once as a member of the state senate from the Boone Story district. His work in the state legislature was a consistent stand in favor of economy and common sense in the conduct of the state government. Mr. Doran had been in failing health for the last year but he continued to keep up his activity about the farm and his supervision of his other interests until he was confined to his bed three weeks ago with heart trouble.
