Justina "Tena" Josephine Sichmeller, the 12th of 14 children, was born to Vincent and Bertha (Ewalt) Sichmeller Feb. 20, 1915, at the family homestead north of Webster. Justina "Tena" Josephine Sichmeller, the 12th of 14 children, was born to Vincent and Bertha (Ewalt) Sichmeller Feb. 20, 1915, at the family homestead north of Webster. She attended St. Joseph's Catholic School in Grenville, through the eighth grade. During the Depression, she worked for other families, even herding sheep and working at the County Farm south of Webster. In 1939, she went to Arizona to work, where three of her older sisters were. There she met James Frank Fling and they were married Feb. 5, 1941, in Bisbee, Ariz. They had two children. Her husband was killed Dec. 25, 1944, during the Battle of the Bulge, during WWII. She returned to Webster to help care for her parents. In 1947, she worked as an aide at the Caldwell Hospital in Webster followed by employment in 1951, at Wist Produce and the new Lake Area Hospital when it opened. She worked as a partsperson at the Chevy Garage. She said she got lonesome for bed pans, so she went to work at Bethesda Nursing Home in January 1962, retiring in 1977. She worked for Dr. Nelson and social services until 1979. She was a 50-year plus member of the Catholic Order of Foresters. Survivors include two daughters, Bertha Carter of Rosemont, Minn., and Gerie Ling of Webster; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one sister, Evelyn Buffert of Webster.
