Description	:	He was raised on the family farm and was a 1933 graduate of Gilman High School. He attended Iowa State University and received a B.A. degree from St. Olaf College. He later received a MLS degree from University of Chicago Library Science and had taken 96 hours of graduate study towards a Ph.D. from the University of Iowa. He had made his home in Iowa City for several years and later moved to Chicago in the late 1940's. Read More	He was raised on the family farm and was a 1933 graduate of Gilman High School. He attended Iowa State University and received a B.A. degree from St. Olaf College. He later received a MLS degree from University of Chicago Library Science and had taken 96 hours of graduate study towards a Ph.D. from the University of Iowa. He had made his home in Iowa City for several years and later moved to Chicago in the late 1940's. While in Chicago, he held several professional positions with the University of Chicago and later Chicago Public Library including, Chief, Humanities Department, and Chief, Literature and Philosophy Division. Following his retirement, he returned in 1980, to the family farm in Gilman. Bill was a member of the Illinois and American Library Association and served on various ALA committees. He was Advertising Manager of the Illinois Library Association from 1956 to 1958 and had contributed many articles to several professional journals. Survivors include one nephew and his wife, Harry and Janet Scurr of Gilman; five great nieces and nephews; eleven great-great nieces and nephews; and a great-great-great niece and nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Susan and Opal Scurr; one brother, J. Clark Scurr; and one niece, Nancy Buitendorp. Smith Funeral Home, Grinnell, Iowa
