Description	:	Mr. Kampe Spieker, the subject of this sketch was born January 15, 1844 at Wirum, Ostfriesland, Germany. He died on the 28th of December, 1914 after a prolonged illness of intense suffering, at the age of 70 years, 11 months and 12 days. The deceased came to America in 1866 and settled down in the neighborhood of Freeport, Illinois, where he was united in marriage with Miss Maria Bruns in the same year. Read More	Mr. Kampe Spieker, the subject of this sketch was born January 15, 1844 at Wirum, Ostfriesland, Germany. He died on the 28th of December, 1914 after a prolonged illness of intense suffering, at the age of 70 years, 11 months and 12 days. The deceased came to America in 1866 and settled down in the neighborhood of Freeport, Illinois, where he was united in marriage with Miss Maria Bruns in the same year. In 1885, they came to Lyon county, Iowa. About three miles from George, Iowa, the acquired a piece of land on which they made their home until in 1903 the aged couple moved to the town of George to spend the rest of their life. The comfort of their pleasant little home in town was not to be afforded unto them very long, however, for in the spring of 1907 Mrs. Spieker died. The loss thus sustained and the breaking up of a home which he dearly loved, proved to Mr. Spieker a blow which he never overcame. During the last couple years, Grandpa Spieker made his stay at the L. Dreesman and Mrs. John Spieker home alternately. In 1890, Mr. Spieker being converted, jointed the Baptist church. He is one of the founders of both the first and second Baptist church and both churches he served as deacon, the duties of which office he faithfully executed to the last. Of 8 children, only 2 survive their parents, Sadie, wife of Mr. L. Dreesman and Willie, the youngest son, who lives near Magnolia, Minnesota. Besides these, Mr. Spieker leaves to mourn his death 6 grandchildren, one brother, two sisters and many other relatives and host of sincere friends. Funeral services for Kampe Spieker were held from the Second Baptist Church on Friday, January 1, 1915, conducted by the pastor and assisted by Rev. J. Jordan of the First Baptist Church, after which the remains were laid to rest in the family lot in the cemetery adjoining the First Baptist Church. (Lyon County News January 7, 1915)
