Description	:	Karen Janeen Elzey, 50, of rural La Porte City, died Saturday, Feb. 28, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home, Waterloo, of cancer. She was born Feb. 21, 1959, in Clinton, daughter of Ronald Edward and LaVonne Ione Doescher Jurgersen. On May 9, 1981, she married Kevin Matthew Kane at Grace Lutheran Church, DeWitt. She was born Feb. 21, 1959, in Clinton, daughter of Ronald Edward and LaVonne Ione Doescher Jurgersen. On May 9, 1981, she married Kevin Matthew Kane at Grace Lutheran Church, DeWitt. He died Oct. 23, 1994. On June 27, 1998, she married Ernest Charles Elzey at Chancy Lutheran Church, Clinton. Mrs. Elzey graduated from DeWitt Central High School, DeWitt, in 1977, then attended Clinton Community College, Clinton, and became a licensed practical nurse. She later became a registered nurse and had worked at hospitals in Clinton, Davenport, and currently was on leave from her duties at the Intensive Care Unit at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo. Survived by: her husband; a son, Kendall (Heather) Kane of Waterloo; a daughter, Kayla Kane of rural La Porte City; a granddaughter; her parents of Clinton; her maternal grandmother, Alta Doescher of Clinton; two brothers, Brent (Karin) Jurgersen of Fort Belvoir, Va., and Kent Jurgersen of Wilton; and a sister, Sheryl Jindrich of Clinton. Preceded in death by: paternal grandparents, William and Delores Jurgersen; and maternal grandfather, Henry Doescher. Karen Janeen Elzey, 50 years old of rural LaPorte City, IA, died, Saturday, February 28, 2009, after a long courageous battle with cancer at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo, IA. She was born February 21, 1959, in Clinton, IA, the daughter of Ronald Edward Jurgersen and LaVonne Ione (Doescher) Jurgersen. She graduated from DeWitt Central High School, DeWitt, IA, with the class of 1977. She then attended Clinton Community College, Clinton, IA, and became a Licensed Practical Nurse. She later advanced in her career and became a Registered Nurse. On May 9, 1981, she was united in marriage to Kevin Matthew Kane at Grace Lutheran Church in DeWitt, IA. He preceded her in death on October 23, 1994. On June 27, 1998, she married Ernest Charles Elzey, at Chancy Lutheran Church, Clinton, Iowa. They moved to rural LaPorte City in 1999, where Ernest became Pastor at Zion Lutheran Church – Jubilee, and Karen became employed at Covenant Medical Center. She had worked at hospitals in Clinton, Davenport, and currently was on leave, from her duties at the Intensive Care Unit at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo at the time of her death. Mrs. Elzey is survived by her husband, Rev. Ernest C. Elzey of rural LaPorte City, IA, one son and daughter in law, Kendall and Heather Kane of Waterloo, IA, one daughter, Kayla Kane of rural LaPorte City, IA, a granddaughter, Kelly Kane, also her parents Ronald and LaVonne Jurgersen of Clinton, IA and her maternal grandmother, Alta Doescher of Clinton, IA, two brothers, Brent (Karin) Jurgersen of Ft. Belvoir, VA, Kent Jurgersen of Wilton, IA, and one sister, Sheryl Jindrich of Clinton, IA. In addition to her first husband, Kevin Kane, her paternal grandparents, William and Delores Jurgersen and her maternal grandfather, Henry Doescher, precede her in death. Funeral Services were held at 10:30 a.m. – Tuesday, March 3, 2009, at Zion Lutheran Church-Jubilee, 12007 Jubilee Road, LaPorte City, IA, with Rev. Nancy J. Larson officiating. Music was provided by Renee Jesse, Ben Harting, Mark Knudsen and the Zion Lutheran Church Bell Choir. Casket Bearers were Benjamin Riensche, Scott Fischels, Lenard Orth, David Steen, Leon Doescher, Tom Kieth, William Locke, and John Opolka. Services were also held 11:00 a.m. - Wednesday, March 4, 2009, at Chancy Lutheran Church, 2315 Wallace Street, Clinton, IA, with Rev. Fred H. Schauer officiating. Music was provided by Joyce Cavanaugh. Burial followed at Springdale Cemetery, Clinton, IA. Memorials will be directed to Zion Lutheran Church-Jubilee and to Cedar Valley Hospice. Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Zion Lutheran Church-Jubilee, La Porte City. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. today at White Funeral Home, Jesup, and for an hour before services Tuesday at the church. Additional services: 11 a.m. Wednesday at Chancy Lutheran Church, with burial in Springdale Cemetery, both in Clinton. Public visitation 9 a.m. until services Wednesday at the church in Clinton. Memorials: may be directed to Zion Lutheran Church-Jubilee, and to Cedar Valley Hospice. Condolences may be left at www.white-mthope.com.
