Description	:	Karen Ann Shepard, 73, of Kirksville, MO passed away on the morning of December 26, 2016 as a result of a short term illness. The daughter of Robert and Jean (Hyde) Lancaster, she was born and raised in Memphis MO, graduating from Memphis High School with the class of 1961. Karen worked at the Scotland County Hospital... Read More	Karen Ann Shepard, 73, of Kirksville, MO passed away on the morning of December 26, 2016 as a result of a short term illness. The daughter of Robert and Jean (Hyde) Lancaster, she was born and raised in Memphis MO, graduating from Memphis High School with the class of 1961. Karen then attended Northeast Missouri State Teachers College. On September 23, 1962 She married Garland Waibel in Memphis Mo. To this couple a son, Sean Robert and a daughter, Shani Renee were born. Karen worked at the Scotland County Hospital and the County Care Center where she retired in the summer of 2008. On June 28, 2008 Karen married Michael Shepard at the Willows north of Downing MO. Together they remodeled their home with Karen making a majority of the design decisions. Karen loved her family and friends of which she had many. She enjoyed working with others and used her boundless energy to good causes including the Kirksville Women of Today. Karen was an excellent cook and noted for her noodles and pies. She enjoyed gardening, raising strawberries and blackberries along with establishing a perennial garden. She assisted in the Memphis High School 50+ annual reunion preparations. Having helped Michael rebuild a pontoon boat, she discovered that she liked fishing, especially Bass fishing. They spent many hours fishing and boating. Her other interests were she was an avid Pepsi collector and loved playing cards with girlfriends she knew from high school. She was preceded in death by her mother and father several sisters and uncles. Survivors include her husband: Michael Shepard of the home in Kirksville, MO; a son: Sean (LaNell) Waibel Memphis MO; Daughter Shani (Grant) "Waibel" Bollin of Nauvoo, IL; a granddaughter: Ti Waibel of Muscatine IA; two grandsons: Mitchel and Devan of Nauvoo IL; and a brother: Jodey Lancaster of Fernandina Beach, FL.
