Wendt, daughter of Vernon and Mary Lou (Soukup) Wendt, was born April 6, 1962, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Lynch, Nebraska. Karen died, April 4, 2013 in Omaha, Nebraska. Karen grew up on the family farm in the Bristow/Gross area in central Boyd County, Nebraska, and graduated from Spencer High School in Spencer, Nebraska, with the Class of 1980. After high school, Karen attended Briar Cliff College in Sioux City, Iowa, Wayne (NE.) State College, and then graduated from Bellevue University in Bellevue, Nebraska with a Bachelors of Science in Healthcare Management. Upon receiving her degree, Karen went to work for First Data Resources in Omaha, Nebraska, and made a life-long career with the company. During her time working for First Data, she advanced to be a supervisor, managing and overseeing credit card processing. Karen was a hard worker, and whatever she set out to do, she did so with much dedication and diligence. It was this attention to detail that gave Karen such a long life and fulfilling life. She holds the distinction of being one of the first kidney transplant recipients in the state of Nebraska, receiving her first transplant in early 1970's. By religiously following her doctors' orders, and meticulously following the regimens set out for her, Karen was able to truly enjoy life to the fullest. She always had a positive attitude, and truly loved life. Her nieces and nephews were like children to her, and Karen touched so many lives here on earth. While growing up, she was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Spencer, Nebraska, and as an adult, was a member of Christ The King Catholic Church in Omaha, Nebraska. Karen was a very caring person, always putting others before herself. Karen is survived by: siblings, Wayne (Diana) Wendt of Bristow, Nebraska, Steve (Yvonne Pence) Wendt of David City, Nebraska, Greg Wendt of Edgemont, South Dakota, Diane (Tom) Ellis of Friend, Nebraska and Marcia (James) Maly of Norfolk, Nebraska; as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and countless friends that were all so dear to her. Karen was preceded in death by: parents, Vernon and Mary Lou Wendt; brother, Michael Wendt and niece, Theresa Ellis. Burial was in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Spencer, NE.
