Description	:	Karen Rae Priester, of Holdrege, Ne., passed away on Sunday, March 24, 2013 at the Southlake Village Rehabilitation and Care Center in Lincoln, NE. Karen was born on July 11, 1938 at North Platte, NE., the eldest of two children born to Wilmer Dean and Agnes (Haugland) Van Pelt. Karen grew up at Paxton, NE., where she graduated from Paxton (NE.) Karen was born on July 11, 1938 at North Platte, NE., the eldest of two children born to Wilmer Dean and Agnes (Haugland) Van Pelt. Karen grew up at Paxton, NE., where she graduated from Paxton (NE.) High School with the class of 1956. Karen then pursued higher education at The University of Nebraska at Kearney, where she received her bachelor's degree in Business and Education in 1960. On May 31, 1959, she was united in marriage to Marvin "Al" Priester at Paxton and to this union two sons were born: Mark and Cory. The couple made their home in Holdrege, NE., where Karen taught business education at Holdrege (NE.) High School for three years. While raising her boys, she served as part-time church Treasurer for the First United Methodist Church in Holdrege, NE. In 1980, Karen joined the staff of The First National Bank of Holdrege, NE. where she was employed for 23 years until her retirement in 2003. Karen was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Holdrege, NE. where she was involved with the United Methodist Women and served in other capacities. Her hands were always busy caring for her family and her home, sewing, cooking and baking. She especially enjoyed traveling with Al, seeing the countryside. Her grandchildren brought special joy to her life with all of their love and excitement. Karen was preceded in death by: husband, Al Priester; parents and brother-in-law, Eldon Priester. Karen leaves to mourn her passing; sons: Mark Priester and his wife, Deb of Lincoln, NE. and Cory Priester and his wife, Sharyl of Grand Island, NE.; grandchildren: Geoffrey, Skyler, Micheal, Anthony and Alyssa; brother, John Van Pelt and his wife, Barb of Paxton, NE.; brothers-in-law: Austin Priester of Beaver City, NE. and Olin Priester of Sandy, UT.; sister-in-law, Evelyn Hayward of Estacada, OR. and a host of relatives and friends. Interment was in The Prairie Home Cemetery, Holdrege, NE. Published in Kearney Hub on March 25, 2013
