Description	:	Karl Henry Gugel, 87 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Saturday, March 9, 2019 at Holdrege Memorial Homes - Assisted Living. Karl was born July 22, 1931 at Holdrege, the second of four children born to Charles Louis and Anna (Johnson) Gugel. He received his primary education from Ragan Public School, and then graduated from Oxford High School with the class of 1948. Read More	Karl Henry Gugel, 87 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Saturday, March 9, 2019 at Holdrege Memorial Homes - Assisted Living. Karl was born July 22, 1931 at Holdrege, the second of four children born to Charles Louis and Anna (Johnson) Gugel. He received his primary education from Ragan Public School, and then graduated from Oxford High School with the class of 1948. Following high school, Karl was employed by the Nebraska Highway Department until his service to his country. On May 14, 1952, Karl was inducted into the United States Army, and served during the Korean War stateside as a heavy equipment operator in the San Francisco Bay area. He was honorably discharged on May 13, 1954. After his service, Karl returned home to the family farm, and engaged in farming with his brothers southwest of Funk, NE. On September 23, 1961, Karl was united in marriage to Marline Soneson and to this union one son, Steven was born. The couple purchased a farm south of Funk, where Karl continued to work the land until his retirement in 1993, at which time they moved into Holdrege. During his years in farming, Karl could fix anything, he enjoyed engine repair, and especially had a knack for fixing irrigation engines. After retirement, he and Marline loved spending their winters together in the Rio Grande Valley in southern Texas. Karl was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church in Holdrege, and was also a member of the Wilcox Lions Club for many years. Karl was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Paul Gugel; and Earl Gugle and his wife, Imogene; brothers-in-law: Paul Murdoch; and ,Bud Soneson; and sister-in-law, Lucille Soneson. He leaves to celebrate his life; his wife of 57 years , Marline Gugel of Holdrege; son, Steve Gugel of Lincoln, NE; one sister, Ann Heckenlively of Ingalls, KS; brother-in-law, Gordon Soneson of Holdrege; and sisters-in-law: Peggy Soneson of St. Paul, NE; and Ardyce Murdoch of Cheyenne, WY.
