Read More	If Merriam Webster were to update his dictionary to add the words, “Karl Kufeldt”, the definition may read something like this: “tall, thin, quiet, kind, caring, respectful, meticulous, neat, and the best memory of any man in America over 90 years of age.” Karl Kufeldt was born on the family farm to Karl and Karolina (Klein) Kufeldt on April 12, 1927. He was raised on the farm and attended country school through the 8th grade. On December 7, 1960 Karl married the love of his life, Ida Friesz. They moved to the farm northeast of Burt where they farmed, raising wheat and cattle, until September 9, 1986, when they held an auction sale and moved to Elgin. While on the farm, Karl and Ida brought their son Allen into this world in 1962. They raised their son on the farm until he graduated high school and went into the work world as a farm laborer. Sadly, Allen’s life was cut short when he died of leukemia in 2005. While on the farm, Karl was known for how neat, clean and meticulous he always kept his farmstead. He was well-known for having the cleanest and most neatly-kept line of machinery in all the neighborhood. In the spring, he’d jump on his W-9 International Tractor, hook up to the plow and pony drill, and get busy seeding. Come harvest time, Karl would get out the W-6 International Tractor, and pull-type swather, to lay down the wheat for the John Deere 55 combine to pick up. In the true spirit of how farming “used to be done at that time”, Karl had no cab on the John Deere 55 combine. Thus, depending which way the wind was blowing, he’d have to button the top button on his shirt to keep the chaff out. Another thing Karl was known for was his ability to take the time to paint tractors and vehicles. Many neighbors would hire Karl to repaint various types of equipment or vehicles, and Karl did so carefully and neatly with meticulous detail. And, due to his meticulous nature, Karl ALWAYS used a brush, never touching a can of spray paint. After their farm auction, and approximately 26 years of farming, Karl and Ida moved to Elgin, ND, in 1986. For over 11 years, Karl worked as a janitor at the Elgin School, and also served as the “money taker” at the Elgin dump ground. In 1997, Karl and Ida decided to move to Mott and lived together there until Karl entered the Good Samaritan Society in Mott in 2014. Karl and Ida were members of the Neuberg Congregational Church north of Burt until it closed, and most notably, never missing a single Sunday! Later, they became members of the Zoar Congregational Church in Mott until the time of Karl’s death. Karl’s hobbies and interests were truly his family, friends, neighbors, and farm. He enjoyed everyone he came in contact with and treated them with the utmost kindness and respect. He particularly enjoyed the neighbors: the Oscar Klein family, the Gottleib Walth family, the Albert Luithle family, the Richard Magstad family, and the Marvin Rokusek family. And we can’t forget to mention one of the most enjoyable things in Karl’s life, his little farm dogs, of which each one he called “Schnebelay”. Not sure what that meant, but that’s what he called them. Karl is preceded in death by his parents, son Allen, and sister Deana Schneider.
