Funeral Services were 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 8 at Trinity Lutheran Church, New Hampton with Reverend David Bergstrom and Reverend Kevin Frey officiating. Dennis Strum was the organist and accompanied those in attendance singing "My Faith Looks Up To Thee", "What A Friend We Have In Jesus" and "Lord Of All Hopefulness". Burial was in St. John's Cemetery, Boyd with Bill Schult, Amber Schult, Clint Schult, Joshua Walker, Ed Suhr and Everett Suhr serving as casket bearers. Honorary casket bearers were . Donald Rowe, Ross Edwards, Albert Hartmann, Erwin Koehnecke and Bob Weidler. Visitation was from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, July 7 at Conway-Kolbet Funeral Home, New Hampton and also an hour prior to services at the church. Karl Louis Weidler was born Dec. 12,1916 near Boyd, the son of William H. and Minna (Schwarzenstein) Weidler. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church, Boyd. He attended country school and graduated from Fredericksburg High School in 1934. Karl worked as a farm hand first for his brothers and neighbors and then in western Iowa for three years. After returning to the Boyd area he was united in marriage to Wilhemina Schnieder on Jan. 21, 1943. He met Wilhemina at a neighborhood barn dance. They resided in Fredericksburg for one year and then lived and farmed with his father near Boyd. Karl continued as a dairy and crop farmer after his father's death in 1952, retiring in the mid 1980's. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Boyd and after its merger, a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, New Hampton. He was a Sunday School teacher and served 6n the church council at St. John's. He was a leader for local and county 4-H groups for 30 years. In the late 1950's, Karl helped form the Fredericksburg Coop and served on the board for 25 years. He served on the Fredericksburg School Board for 12 years including a term as president. He was on the ASCS County Committee for nine years and measured land. Karl and Wilhemina were meter readers for the REC for 20 years. He enjoyed Big Band and old-time country music, hymns, ice cream, reading, fishing and sharing his gardening wealth with friends and visiting with family and friends near and far. Survivors include four daughters, Joyce (Bill) Schult, Eagan, MN, Karla (Don) Kelly, Freeport, FL, Linda Weidler (Cecil Walker III), Louisburg, NC and Nancy Weidler, Minneapolis, MN; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and a sister, Marie Mikes, Fredericksburg. Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Wilhemina and five brothers, Arnold, Walter, Martin, William and Norbert.
