He collapsed after the exertion of walking against the wind, and passed away before medical aid could reach him. He had attended the Massey-Harris tractor school and demonstration in the Squadron Hall and had just arrived at the door of his home when he collapsed. The extreme frosty air is thought to have smothered his breathing, causing an over strain on the heart. Deceased was aged 69 years, 5 months and 10 days, being born in Biggsville, Ill, Sept 1st 1866. He was the son of a pioneer family from Kentucky who settled in Illinois in the early part of the eighteenth century. He attended Monmouth College and taught in the Biggsville High School for several years. In 1897 he came to Leduc, Alberta, engaging in the Massey-Harris implement agency there, later entering the hardware business. In 1915 he was lured back into the teaching profession, teaching at Redcliff and Bawlf, before coming to the Starline School in 1930. He was a kindly, dignified gentleman and had a wide circle of friends locally, gained through the University library for which he was the executive secretary. Mr Martin was greatly interested in the plan to place circulating libraries in the rural schools and was devoting a good deal of energy in helping to organize the project, In 1903 he was married to Caroline Robson of London, Ontario, also a school teacher. He is survived by his wife and five children Mrs P.J. Seal of Etzikom Miss Nancy Martin of Etzikom school staff James Preston (Martin) Margaret (Martin) Malcolm (Martin) all of Claresholm. There are also three grandchildren. Deceased was a member of the Leduc Masonic Lodge and that Order was in charge of the funeral arrangements. The funeral was held in the United Church with Rev R.W. Dalgleish conducting the services. George W Ringrose directed the funeral arrangements. Interment was made in the Clarsholm Cemetery.
