He was born August 23, 1932 to Victor John and Florence (Jenson) Casten in Grand Meadow Township, Clayton County, Iowa. Karl was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville, Iowa by Reverend Frederick R. Ludwig. Karl graduated from Postville High School in 1950. He was born August 23, 1932 to Victor John and Florence (Jenson) Casten in Grand Meadow Township, Clayton County, Iowa. Karl was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville, Iowa by Reverend Frederick R. Ludwig. Karl graduated from Postville High School in 1950. He drove truck for Merle Lange and also Harold Koth in his early years. Later he was employed at Marianna Petroleum, Postville for thirteen years. When they sold out to Fauser Oil Company he continued with them from 1981 to 1997 until he retired. Karl lived at Postville, Iowa all of his life and on the home place since 1944. He moved to the Good Samaritan Society in Postville in July 2014. Karl loved his yearly fishing trips to Red Lake at Ontario, Canada with “Windy” and Betty Masonhall. He also enjoyed taking his boat to the Mississippi and fishing with friends. In earlier years he produced many vegetables from his well-kept garden and cooked good meals for himself. He was very dedicated to keeping his home and yard in neat order. Karl loved to get on his Cub Cadet and spent most of the day mowing and trimming the yard. Otherwise, you could find him at the local coffee spots chatting with friends over a cup of coffee. His neighbor and best friend, Don Meyer was another stopping place. Karl is survived by his sister, LaVon Barnes of Shreveport, Louisiana; two nephews, John Barnes and Dale Barnes; and several cousins. Karl was preceded in death by his parents, Victor and Florence Casten. Visitation will be Friday, July 15, 2016 from 4-6 pm at Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Postville, Iowa and one hour before services at the church on Saturday. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, July 16, 2016 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville, Iowa with Greg Hamm as the Officiant.
