Description	:	Karl Whipple, 84, of Gothenburg, formerly of Brady, died Feb. 12, 2005, at Hilltop Estates in Gothenburg.He was born March 9, 1920, in a blizzard, five miles north of Callaway to Eugeue and Malinda Spooner Whipple. He attended the Climax Union School in the Sandhills north of Arnold 18 miles. In 1937, he joined the Civilian Service Conservation Camp. They spent 11 years in the Sandhills and in 1951 moved to Brady, where Karl worked for the lumberyard in Brady. In 1952, he went to work for the Lincoln Hiway Garage, where he worked for 13 years. In 1965, Karl and Margaret started their own business, Karl's Conoco and Groceries of Brady. In 1984, they retired to their home in Brady. In 2002, Karl and Margaret moved to Gothenburg.Mr. Whipple was a member of the Brady Lion's Club for 34 years. He loved to tease and joke with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. People would always watch out for Karl riding his lawn mower around town.Survivors include his wife, Margaret of Gothenburg; two daughters, Janice (Marvin) Dewey of North Platte and Marlene (Ed) Myers of Brady; a son, Tom (Jeanne) Whipple of Macks Creek, Mo.; seven grandchildren, Kandi (Mark Bailey); James Dewey; Carmi (Brad) Jackson; Rodney (Christine) Whipple; Traci (Chad) Hilbers; Jenni (Josh) Myers; Leslie (Ben) Mankhey; eight great-grandsons; six great-granddaughters; a brother, Eugene (Lucille) Whipple, Jr. of Brady; and two sisters, Bethel Willis of Gothenburg and Margaret Jersin of Gothenburg.He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Tamela Jo Dewey; and a great-grandson, Garrett Ryan Bailey.Memorials are suggested to the Brady Lion's Club.Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Brady United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Gaslin Cemetery south of Brady.Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today with family present from 6 to 9 p.m. at Blase Memorial Chapel in Gothenburg.
