Kendall, Marion's oldest merchant, passed away at 8:50 a.m. Monday at his home, 1048 Twelfth st., following an illness of two months. He was born April 5, 1881 in Marion, the son of Wellington J. and Emma Braucht Kendall and has resided his entire life in this community. Mr. Kendall as the third generation of his family to operate a hardware store in Marion and would have been in the business for 50 years next October. Prior to buying the store he was in the lumber and coal business in Max Bass, N.D. On February 10, 1909 was united in marriage to Miss Olive Foster at Marion. Mr. Kendall was active in civic affairs and was a member of the Marion board of education at the time the present high school building was constructed. He was a past president of the local Chamber of Commerce, also. He was a member of the First Congregational church of Cedar Rapids. He was a 50 year member of the following lodges: Trojan Lodge, No. 548, A.F & A.M., Marion Chapter No. 10, R.A.M., and Patmos Commandery No. 27, K.T. He was a 25 year member ofEl Kahir Shrine. A number of years ago Mr. Kendall was a member of Mentzer's hose Team. Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Mrs. Harry E (Kathryn) Kelley, Cedar Rapids and Mrs. William J. (Elinor) Chadima, ALhambra, Cal., two grandchildren, Karl and Susan Kelley, Cedar Rapids and a sister Mrs. Ed (Alberta) Sigfred and a brother, Ralph J. Kendall, both of Marion. Memorial services were conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Murdoch chapel by the Rev. J. Richard Wagner assisted by Rev. Jean P. Hauter. Interment was in Oak Shade cemetery.
