Description	:	Karla Leach Archer, 75 died Monday November 12 at Dougherty Hospice House after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born November 13, 1942 in Beresford, SD to Henry and Isabelle Arends. Karla’s faith in God guided her journey. Family was a priority from holiday meals to basketball and soccer games to musicals and graduations. Her generous spirit touched local and global missions. She was born November 13, 1942 in Beresford, SD to Henry and Isabelle Arends. Karla’s faith in God guided her journey. Family was a priority from holiday meals to basketball and soccer games to musicals and graduations. Her generous spirit touched local and global missions. Karla’s creative side was evident in her sewing, artwork, and organizing events. Visitation will take place at First United Methodist Church on Thursday, November 15, 2018 from 4:00-6:00 with a short prayer service beginning at 6:00 p.m. Private family burial will take place before Karla's funeral service at Hills of Rest Cemetery. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 16, 2018 at First United Methodist Church in Sioux Falls with a luncheon to follow after the funeral. She graduated from DeSmet High School in 1960 and then Dakota Wesleyan University with a BA in education. Karla married Darrel Leach in 1964 in DeSmet. She received her masters degree from Augustana College in multicultural education in 1997. She taught kindergarten in Chester, worked at the Dakotas Conference office in Mitchell, taught kindergarten in Piedmont. In Sioux Falls, she taught first grade at Franklin and Terry Redlin, along with Reading Recovery. After 30 years of teaching, she retired in 2005. Karla also volunteered at KidStop, tutoring students after school. She was an active United Methodist, serving on various committees as well as both local and conference United Methodist Women. Karla married Will in 2006 and has enjoyed traveling and shopping in retirement. Attending grandchildren’s events was a priority and delight! Survivors include her husband, Will Archer, two daughters and their husbands, Conni (Russ) McCormick, Colette (Paul) Cocco, son J.D. Leach, and significant other, Shawn Hovaldt, grandchildren: Trevor, Ali, Chad, Jocelyn, Katelyn, and great granddaughter, Cooper, brother, Henry Arends, cousin Sheryl Freeman. Also survived by Will’s children: John (Sherry) Archer, Joan Archer, Janelle (Mark) Hoven, Jerry Archer, and Jocelyn Archer, grandchildren: Amanda (Nick), Rachel (James), David (Sari), Jessica (Darrell), Mike (Macy), Sarah, and Katherine (Travis), and great-grands: William, Garrett, Jonathan, Rose, Connor, and Harrison. Preceded in death by her parents and first husband, Darrel Leach. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to United Methodist Women or KidStop at First United Methodist Church. - Heritage Funeral Home
