She was born on Sept. 30, 1926, in Sioux Falls, S.D., to Karl and Emma (Engelcke) Voigt. Totty graduated from Estherville High School in 1944, and from Estherville Community College and the University of Iowa, as an art major. She worked at the University Hospital in Iowa City, typing medical reports for 21 doctors. She was born on Sept. 30, 1926, in Sioux Falls, S.D., to Karl and Emma (Engelcke) Voigt. Later, she transferred to the Veteran's Hospital, where she set the record as the fastest transcriber at that time. Totty married Myron (Ike) Zeigler on September 7, 1952, in Estherville. After Ike graduated from dental school, they moved to Sibley, where she worked as his assistant until their daughter, Kim was born in 1954. In 1963, they moved to Spirit Lake, and son, Scott was born that year. She worked in Spirit Lake, for the County Home and Hilltop Care Center, as their activities director. Totty was a member of PEO, TTT, the Spirit Lake Protective Association and Grace Lutheran Church. She also volunteered at Lakes Regional Healthcare. Totty and Ike were honored as Citizens of the Year in 1992-1993. In her spare time, she enjoyed painting, crafts, traveling, being at the lake and spending time with her family. For the past four years, Totty has lived in Mankato at Sunrise Cottage. Totty is survived by her daughter, Kim Stroud, and her husband, Stephen; a son, Scott Zeigler, and his wife, Melaine; four grandchildren, Kenzie Stroud Piper, Scott Stroud, and Stad and Hayden Zeigler; two sisters, Raeburn Louscher and Dorcas Parks. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ike. A funeral service was held at 1 p.m. Monday, at Grace Lutheran Church in Spirit Lake. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Spirit Lake Protective Association fireworks display.
