A burial was held on Tuesday, March 22nd 2022 at 3:30 PM at the Greenhill Cemetery. Karol was born on Nov. 19, 1948 to Oscar Stanley and Mildred Margaret Holdahl at Gilstrap, South Dakota. She attended Gilstrap country school through the 8th grade and then went to high school in Lemmon. Karol met and began dating Roland Hoffman at the age of 14, and four years later, on November 27, 1966, they were married at the Reformed Presbyterian Church in Lemmon, South Dakota. They were married for nearly 55 years, during which time they raised four blind children: Kimberlie, Konnie, Rory, and Reed on a ranch just outside of Lemmon. Karol always said her greatest joy was her kids, as was evidenced by the fact that she and Rolly drove hundreds of thousands of miles each week for nine years to bring their daughters to and from the South Dakota School for the Blind in Aberdeen. The Hoffmans were known around the Dakotas for their country/gospel band, and although Karol was not musically inclined herself, she nonetheless played an essential role in the band as booking agent, sound board operator, and record seller. She was very much a people person and possessed the enviable ability to strike up a conversation and make friends with anyone within a matter of minutes. When not on the road, Karol was also a vibrant member of the community: being involved with such organizations as the local homemakers club, the music boosters, the Red Hatters, and various church activities. She will be deeply missed by friends and family alike. Karol is survived by her twin daughters Kim Hoffman (Dillon, Montana) and Konnie (Bob) Ellis (Rapid City, South Dakota), sons Rory Hoffman (Nashville, Tennessee) and Reed Hoffman (Austin, Texas), grandchildren Kayla and Jesse Bojkovsky, and Karissa and Justin Ellis. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Terry, and husband Roland. On April 5 at 2:00 pm, a celebration of memories and music for both Roland and Karol Hoffman will be held at the New Hope Worship Center. Everyone will be invited to share as many stories as you would like, about these two special people that will always live on in our hearts.
