Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Thomas Orthodox Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. Lucas Rice officiating. Burial will be in St. Thomas Orthodox Church Cemetery inside of Graceland Park Cemetery. Condolences may be made online at www.meyerbroschapels.com. Katie was born on June 30, 1929, in Sioux City, the daughter of Alex and Inda (Black) Kazos. She graduated from Central High School. On Sept. 30, 1949, she married Philip Hanna at Holy Trinity Orthodox Church. They were married for almost 64 years. During Katie's years of employment, she was an event coordinator and catering manager for the Sioux City Country Club and Marina Inn. She also worked in high-end ladies fashion at Younker's. She also assisted her husband, Phil, in managing The Pine Room bar that later became the Penthouse Night Club. The bar was located in downtown Sioux City above the Broiler Room Steakhouse; both of which were owned by her late father, Alex Kazos. Katie's event planning experience paved the way for many devoted years to church projects such as Mahajan conventions and the coordination of food tent sales during River-Cade and other Sioux City festivals. She was the first female elected to serve on the St. Thomas Orthodox Church council. Katie was known for her great sense of humor, empathy and love for people. She was the best friend to many and will be greatly missed by many more. Survivors include her husband, Phil; a son, Mark Hanna of Sioux City; a granddaughter, Jayci Giaccone of Dallas, Texas; brothers, Nick Kazos of Lincoln, Neb., George Kazos of Sioux City, Lex Kazos of Storm Lake, Iowa, and Don Diones of Castle Rock, Colo.; and a sister, Laine Kinney of Loveland, Colo. She is preceded in death by her parents, Alex Kazos and Inda (Kazos) Webber; a stepmother, Viola (Diones) Kazos; a daughter, Roxie Hanna Giaccone; and sisters, Willie Volmar and Cleo Manolas. Pallbearers will be Dr. Alex Kazos, Scott Haberer, Reed Haberer, Pat Corey, Craig Hanna, and George Hanna. Honorary pallbearers will be Don Hanna, Ron Hanna, Jeff David, Greg David, and Paul Lammers. Katie loved white flowers, but in lieu the family asks that donations be made to St. Thomas Orthodox Church in her honor.
