Description	:	SILVER CREEK — Katherine A. Gibbs, 61, of Silver Creek died Saturday, Sept. 12, 2015, at University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Pierce Chapel near Clarks, with the Rev. Dale Coates officiating. Burial will be in the Bureau Cemetery by Pierce Chapel. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Gibbs Sr. Survivors include her father and stepmother, Arnold and Ester Long of Columbus; her daughters, Annette (David) Bernhard of Lakeland, Fla., Heather (Paul) Hotten of West Fargo, N.D., Jennifer (Scott) Gibson of Central City, Heidi (Cutler) Lewis of Guntersville, Ala., and Penny (Walter) Worlein of Columbus; a son, John Gibbs Jr. of Central City; three sisters, Alice Long and Anita Kasper of Columbus and Lori Wuest of Creston; a brother, Roland Long of Arizona; and 17 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. She was raised in the Columbus area. She received her education at Rising City Elementary and graduated from Lakeview High School in 1972. She married Larry Burge in Columbus. Larry was in the Air Force, which allowed them to live in several states, and they finally settled back in Nebraska in 1979. Katherine married John Gibbs on Aug. 6, 1982, in Central City, where they made their home. Katherine loved cooking, camping, fishing, and gardening. The gardening passion led her to pursue her degree in Horticulture. She graduated from Central Community College in Hastings in 2009. She mostly loved spending time with her family and friends. Katherine is also preceded in death by her mother, Lou Long; a brother, Allan Long; a sister, Betty Long; and grandparents.
