Read More	Katherine Ann "Kay" Lamb, age 70, passed away Thursday afternoon, October 29th, 1992 in the family home at 1231 Hauser Boulevard, Helena. Edward Hislop as celebrant. Rite of Burial in the family lot at Calvary Cemetery, Miles City, Montana will take place later. Kay was born April 14th, 1922 in Butte to Owen and Ann (Sharkey) Shields. She graduated from St. Joseph's Catholic School in Butte. The summers of her early years were spent helping her mother and father operate the mining claim the family owned in High Ore Gulch, Montana. Later, she worked as an usherette at the Centre Theatre in Salt Lake City, Utah. Prior to her marriage, she was employed at the uptown J. C. Penny Department Store where she was an elevator operator and modeled clothing for the company. She and her cousin, Katherine Hartwig, cooked for haying and branding crews on the Hartwig Ranch ranch near Dillon. It was was on a blind date at a country dance near Dillon that Kay met Lloyd Lamb. They fell in love and decided to marry once Lloyd finished his overseas military service. Following Lloyd's tour of duty overseas with the 8th Air Force, he returned to the states. While on a furlough, he and Kay were married April 12th, 1945 at St. Patrick's Church in Butte by the Rt. Rev. Msgr. Michael English. It was wartime and rationing made travel difficult. However, because family and friends gave ration stamps to them in wedding cards as gifts, the newly married couple was able to make their honeymoon trip to Miles City by way of Laurel where they visited Lloyd's grandparents Ben and Mary Lamb. Because of travel restrictions during the war, Ben and Mary hadn't visited with Mary's sister and husband John and Margaret Gavin of Miles City for several years. Also, at that time, John Gavin was a patient in Holy Rosary Hospital. Kay and Lloyd took Ben and Mary to Miles City so they could visit the Gavins. It was a blessing that they made this trip, because two weeks later John Gavin passed away. Aunt Maggie, as she was called, was like a mother to Kay. Lloyd was assigned to the 557th AAF Base Unit at Gore Hill, so the couple made their home in Great Falls. After Lloyd's discharge from the Army Air Force they moved to Helena. Kay and Lloyd built the family home at 1231 Hauser Boulevard. Into this union were born Earl, Anthony, Kathy and Arthur. Kay was a devoted wife and mother. She loved homemaking, gardening, sewing, working the "cake walk" at St. Helena Cathedral parish bazaars and attending her children's school programs and activities. She loved to make pasties and holiday cookies. She always cooked special dinners on Sundays. Family vacations to Lindbergh Lake and the Swan Valley were always enjoyable for her as was traveling with Lloyd to far away places like Alaska and Hawaii. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 1087, Great Falls and the Ladies Sewing Club. She was an R.S. volunteer at the VA Hospital. Kay was proud of her Irish-Catholic heritage. In fact, both her parents immigrated from County Down and Donegal, Ireland to the United States in 1910. Her survivors include: husband Lloyd of Helena, Mont.; children Lloyd Earl (Rosemary) Lamb of Daly City,Calif., Tony (Therese) Lamb of Helena, Mont., Kathy Lamb of Billings and Art Lamb of Helena, Mont.; brothers Anthony Shields of Anaconda, Mont., Owen Shields of High Ore Gulch, Mont.; sisters and brother-in-law Eileen Gaved of Pocatello, Ida., Mary and Robert Maguire of Butte, Mont.; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Frank and Geri Lamb of Helena, Mont.; granddaughter Veronica Lamb of Daly City,Calif., and many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceeded in death by her parents Owen and Ann Shields; a young brother, Owen Francis; two infant sisters, Rose Agnes and Anna Lucille. As a token of sympathy, Masses are suggested or memorials may be sent to Hospice of St. Peter's Hospital 2312 Lockey, Helena, Mont. 59601 and Lewis and Clark County Cancer Committee, P.O. Box 4494, Helena, Mont. 59604.
