MARTIN PLOYHAR The funeral of the late Mrs. Martin Ployhar was held in the M.E. church Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. J.S. Wilds officiating and interment was made in Woodbine cemetery. The floral offerings were very beautiful and the words spoken by the officiating minister were indeed a fine testimonial to the unselfish life of the good mother who had passed away to the great beyond: Mrs. Ployhar had been a faithful wife, and a loving self-denying mother. As a wife, through long and tender association, she was her husband's companion, counsellor, and a comforter. His loneliness will be in the loss of one who made loneliness impossible. As a mother, she was full of loving interest in her children. She made their joys and sorrows her own, and this love was reciprocated by them. She was the radiant center of a beautiful family affection. It must be consoling to feel that in the months of her declining health, that loving hands were at her side, anticipating her wishes, and leaving nothing undone that would contribute to her happiness and comfort. As a woman, she was charitable in judgment, cheerful in spirit, uncomplaining in affliction. Her last illness was marked by fortitude and patience. It was said of her by the nurses at the hospital, that no patient whom they ever attended was so appreciative and thankful, and none were ever so cheerful and uncomplaining as was she. So charisteristic was this spirit in her, that they called her their ideal patient, and spoke of her in terms of loving affection. I asked this large family of children what was the outstanding virtue in the life of their mother that is pleasant to recall amid their sorrows in connection with her going, and with unanimous voice, they said: "She never thought of herself first." Unselfishness. Her motto was "others." Yes, that is the typical American mother. There is one form sacred in memory's gallery – one face, which time can never erase. It is that of mother – the dear, gentle, compassionate mother, who loved us ere we knew what love was and taught us the right ere we knew the wrong. She sang us to sleep in the innocence of childhood and awoke us with loving kisses on the bright morning of long ago. She watched us to school in the summer sun, and taught us our lessons by the wintery fireside. From childhood's morn to maturity's hour, she was ever at hand to sooth and console, and when at last we must go forth from the old home and fireside, how tenderly and affectionately she caressed us, and kissed us goodbye – then waited and hoped and prayed that all would be well. From first to last her love was always the same – it knew no bounds. With cheers for the right and tears for the wrong, she was happy in our joys – sad in our sorrows, and she washed away our errors in the flooded rivelets of her big soul. Her conscience was her guide, and her family her greatest joy. She loved her home more than glittering fashion, and sought honor in the consciensionnsness of doing good. Mid afflictions, trials, and suffering years, she lived for a purpose – that we might succeed. We loved her as we loved no other, and peasant memories will cluster about her peaceful grave. She has gone now – the kind heart has ceased her its tender murmurings, and the voice so full of love and sympathy is hushed in the silence of the winding sheet, but floating up before us in the infinite vast, we see a form radiant with the splendor of noble virtues and on her wasted brow is the breath of eternal morning – safe at last in the peaceful home of the soul. While her body was slowly crumbling, her soul was radiantly youthful and happy, as she looked forward to death as the gateway of coronation. Her life waned slowly away till the last spark flickered out in peaceful sleep. "It is not death to bear The wrench that sets us free From dungeon chain, to breathe the air Of Boundless liberty." She will be missed by many outside of her home, but all who knew that estimable lady will "sorrow not as others which have no hope, for if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus, will God bring with Him." "A life of sweet simplicity Was graced with Christian charity And with action motherly, She spoke her Lord's sincerity." No pain distressed her latter years, No Death's dark veil aroused her fears; She slumbered through the shades of night And woke to bliss in endless light. Of earthly friends there is no other Whose love compares with that of mother; To those who mourn it must be sweet That God giveth His beloved sleep. God only takes to hold more dear, The loved ones He has given; And thou art still our grandmother, Our grandmother in Heaven." Lines written by the officiating minister. Mrs. Catherin Ploy has born Nov. 25, 1858, in Bristol, Iowa, and died in Rochester Sept. 27, 1920, in the 62nd year of her age. She was happily married to Martin Ployhar June 21, 1877, and their first home was at Plymouth, Iowa. In 1881 they moved to Wahpeton, N.D., and for 17 years, from 1903 until her death, they have resided in McClusky, N.D. Mrs. Ployhar leaves to mourn her going, her husband, nine children, 17 grandchildren, two sister and one brother. The children are Frank, of Valley City, Mrs. Helen Dwinell of Anderson, California; Mrs. Julie Marshall of Crescent, Oklahoma; Mrs. Anna Wasson , of Fargo, N.D.; Ralph of Mandan, N.D.; Miss Hilda Ployhar of Fargo; Miss Effie Ployhar of Washington, D.C.; Mrs. Dorothy Kleve of McClusky, N.D.; Roy Ployhar, also of McClusky. These children are all present today to mingle their tear beside the casket of their mother, except two, namely, Mrs. Dwinell of Anderson, Cal., and Mrs. Julia Marshall, of Crescent, Oklahoma. There are also present, her two sisters, Mrs. Nettie Hodek of Thief River Falls, Minn., Mr. Anna Hobza, of Lidgerwood, N.D. and her brother, Jno (John) Chada, of Havana, N.D.
