KATE JANSSEN Mrs. Kate Janssen, 88, formerly of Hooper, died early Saturday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Amelia Johanning at LeShara, Mo. She had been in ill health for some time. Surviving are four sons: Fred Janssen of Fremont, and Herman, Charles, and John of Hooper; three daughters, Mrs. Emma Miller of Herman, Mrs. Lucy Fhuere of Pickens, S. C., and Mrs. Johanning; one sister, Mrs. Lena Kallenbach of Hooper, and a brother John Brandt of North Bend. Katherine Brandt was born at Peoria, Ill., June 11, 1858, and died on Nov. 9, 1946, aged 88. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church. On March 6, 1875, she married John P. Janssen at Peoria, Ill., and they soon came to Nebraska, settling northwest of Fremont, and later on a farm southwest of Hooper. They moved to Hooper in 1903, and Mr. Janssen died Nov. 2, 1904. Mrs. Janssen resided here most of her remaining life, except the last two years, which she spent with her daughter, Mrs. Amelia Johanning, at Leslie, Mo. She was the mother of 12 children, five of whom preceded her in death. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran church and Zion's Ladies Aid. The funeral service was held Monday afternoon at Zion church, conducted by Rev. Paul H. G. Moessner. The pallbearers were her nephews, Frank, Albert, Ernest and Ed Brandt, Harold Kallenbach and Herman Meier. Burial was in the Hooper cemetery, Wollmer & Warne were in charge. Other items of interest on the same page of the paper 300 AT SCHOOL FOR OPEN HOUSE Hooper School's Open House, held Monday evening, was a tremendous success. Much interest was shown, and parents and patrons who attended appreciated the warm hospitality, and very excellent program planned for them. Over 300 registered during the evening, according to Supt. Donald E. Morrow. Regular afternoon classes were conducted in all-grades and departments from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Visitors inspected the building, heard class recitations, and were incited to the dining room of the Vocational Home Economics room for light refreshments. The Home Ec students presided at a serving table prettily appointed with fall flowers and lighted taports. Many favorable comments were heard on the neat appearance of the building, attractive classroom displays and the ……..teaching staff.
