Feb 3, 1938 - Carroll Daily Herald - Mrs. Katherine Eltgroth, 65, a resident of Carroll for twenty years, died suddenly of a heart, attack at her home, 115 North Maple Street, at 8:30 Wednesday evening. Mrs. Eltgroth had been in ill health for the last five years and had failed rapidly since Christmas time. She had been able to be up and about her home, however, until she was fatally stricken. The body will be taken this afternoon from the Kirchor-Dietrich Funeral Home to the family home on North Maple Street, Solemn requiem high mass will be read at the funeral services which will be hold at 9 o'clock Saturday morning at SS. Peter and Paul's Church. The Rev. L. Schenkelberg will be the celebrant of the mass; the Rev. John Hausman of Churdan, a first cousin of Mrs. Eltgroth, will be the deacon, and the Rev. H.B. Karhoff, subdeacon. Burial will be in the family lot in the parish cemetery. Mrs. Eltgroth was born Katherine Eich, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Eich, at Mendota, Illinois July 3, 1872. She was only three or four years old when her parents brought their family to Carroll county ;uid settled at Roselle. She married John Elgroth at Holy Angels Church in Roselle. Mr. and Mrs. Eltgroth made their home on their farm two and one-quarter miles south of Carroll, where they were living when Mr. Elgroth passed away in October 1917. The following December Mrs. Eltgroth and daughters came to Carroll, which has been their home since that time. Surviving Mrs. Eltgroth are her daughters: Misses Antonia and Cecelia, the latter of whom is a well-known Carroll musician; two sisters and two brothers: Sister M. Lucy, Petersburg, Ia.; Joseph Eich, Spencer; Charles Eich, Halbur, and Elizabeth Eich, Danbury. Miss Elizabeth Eich will arrive here this evening. Mrs. Eltgroth was a member of SS. Peter and Paul's Church and the Christian Mothers Sodality of the parish.
