Description	:	Katherine F. "Kay" Scherer, of Billings, died early Wednesday, Jan. 7, 1997, at home after a courageous battle with cancer. Kay was born on March 11, 1942, in Mitchell, S.D., the daughter of the late Minnie and Henry Schroeder. She graduated from Plankinton (S.D.) High School and attended Dental Tech school in Minneapolis. It was in Plankinton that she met and married Jerry B. Scherer on Dec. 1, 1962. "Kay" Scherer, of Billings, died early Wednesday, Jan. 7, 1997, at home after a courageous battle with cancer. Kay was born on March 11, 1942, in Mitchell, S.D., the daughter of the late Minnie and Henry Schroeder. She graduated from Plankinton (S.D.) High School and attended Dental Tech school in Minneapolis. It was in Plankinton that she met and married Jerry B. Scherer on Dec. 1, 1962. Kay and Jerry lived in various parts of the country while he was in the Marine Corps before settling in Billings in 1971, to raise their two daughters and one son. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who gave unselfishly to everyone she met. Kay enjoyed traveling with Jerry, visiting with friends over coffee, reading, walking and playing with her grandchildren. Her family, friends and grandchildren were most precious to her. Katherine is survived by her loving husband Jerry; two daughters and their husbands, Christie and Daniel Parker of Colorado Springs, Colo., Wendy and Brian Ross of Billings; son Jerry P. of Billings; three sisters, Rose Schneider of Mitchell, S.D., Marybelle Weber of Indianapolis, Ind., Margaret Body of Jamestown, N.D.; one brother John Schroeder of Plankinton, S.D. , and their families. Vigil Service will be 7 p.m. Friday at St. Bernard's Parish. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Bernard's Parish with Rite of Committal in Holy Cross Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Billings Inter-Hospital Oncology Project, 1239 N. 28th, Suite #2, Billings, Mont. 59101.
