Description	:	June Courtney Barnhart, 84, of Wenatchee, died Thursday, Nov. 28, 2002, at Highline Convalescent Center. She was born June 16, 1918 to Hugh L. and Maimie (Moore) Courtney at the family's log cabin in Stehekin. June received her education at the one room Stehekin School. At age 18, after many years of hard work at the family homestead, June moved to Wenatchee where she took a job as a nanny. She was born June 16, 1918 to Hugh L. and Maimie (Moore) Courtney at the family's log cabin in Stehekin. June received her education at the one room Stehekin School. At age 18, after many years of hard work at the family homestead, June moved to Wenatchee where she took a job as a nanny. She married Ken Barnhart on April 12, 1940 in Wenatchee where they resided together. Ken and June spent some summers in Stehekin while Kenny worked at the Courtney Saw Mill. June worked at various jobs after her nanny work: Cedargreens, Valley Evaporating, Woolworths, Owl Drug, Greyhound Bus Depot. In 1950 Ken and June built a cabin in Stehekin on family property where they spent quite a bit of time when they could. June loved a brisk daily walk, especially at Stehekin. Having grown up on nearly self sustaining land, animals were an important part of her life. Of all the animals at home, none meant as much to her as the horses. After leaving Stehekin at age 18, she didn't have a horse again until 1960, when to settle a debt her son Mike gave her a horse. June had a good stubbornness about her but is best known for her sense of humor and sparkle in her eye when she grinned. She had many fond memories of her life: riding horses and skiing with her younger brother Ray, walking, tending roses, teasing grandchildren, camping and reminiscing about her many years at Stehekin. Survivors include her husband, Kenneth Barnhart, at home, a son Mike and his wife Nancy of Stehekin and East Wenatchee, a daughter, Mary Jenkins of Hot Springs Village, AR; seven grandchildren, Mike Barnhart Jr., Keller; Tania Barnhart, Stehekin; Owen Barnhart, Temple City, CA; Roger Barnhart, East Wenatchee; Cheryl Johnson, James Jenkins and Keith Jenkins, San Antonio, TX; ten great-grandchildren, Danita Grasser, Tyler Barnhart, Aiyana Ball, Victoria Barnhart, Austin, Shauna and Jessica Barnhart, Ross, Christopher and Megan Jenkins; sister-in-law Lona Courtney Honeysett of Wenatchee; brother-in-law George Barnhart and special friend Helen Keller, of East Wenatchee. June was preceded in death by her father Hugh L. Courtney, mother Maimie (Moore) Courtney, brothers Ray, Laurence, Curt, half-sister Dorothy Byrd and half-brother Harwood Lopspiech. June was the last surviving member of the Courtney family in her generation. Services will be conducted Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2002 at 1 p.m. at Telford's Chapel of the Valley in East Wenatchee. Viewing will be held noon-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Research Foundation. Arrangements are by Telford's Chapel of the Valley, East Wenatchee.
