Description	:	The Mass of Christian burial for Katherine Hess, age 94 of Lemmon, will be held at 10:30am on Monday, January 12, 2015 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lemmon. Deacon Bill Dustman and Fr. John Lule will officiate with burial in Greenhill Cemetery at Lemmon. A Rosary Service will be held at 7:00pm on Sunday evening at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. KATHERINE KAHL was born on January 16, 1920, 8 miles northwest of Lemmon in Adams County, North Dakota to Balthaser and Paulina (Riehl) Kahl. She attended St. Mary’s Grade School, North Lemmon School, and Lemmon High School graduating in 1938. Katherine worked at the Adams County Courthouse in Hettinger. She taught school in Spring Butte Township in 1943 and 1944. Katherine was united in marriage to John G. Hess on May 3, 1949 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lemmon. She was a fulltime stay at home mom to their 10 children. She enjoyed sewing for herself and her children and gardening. She handmade quilts for all her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Katherine was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, and Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary. She held various offices in the American Legion Auxiliary, and was the V.F.W. Auxiliary secretary for 27 years. She belonged to St. Mary’s Altar Society. Katherine passed away on Monday, January 5, 2015 at the West River Regional Medical Center in Hettinger. Surviving family members include her 4 daughters, Cindy Hess (Dennis Bruneau), Condon, OR; Bonita (Leo) Boespflug, Ranchester, WY; Mari Hess (David Neat), Roseburg, OR; Teresa (Don) Warfield, Garden City, KS; 6 sons, Jake, Cheyenne, WY; Roger (Bernie), Sioux City, IA; Keith, Thornton, CO; Tim (Sandy), Lemmon, SD; Greg (Linnea), Port Orchard, WA; Harlan (Kathy), Lemmon, SD; 16 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and sisters-in-law, Irene Scoular, Lemmon, SD; Jenny Hess, Gehring, NE; Bernice Hess, Belle Fourche, SD; and numerous nieces and nephews. Katherine was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, brothers, Jake and John Kahl, and sisters, Margaret Hess and Mary Kersten.
