Description	:	Peacefully, surrounded by her family, Katherine Dueck went to her home with Jesus at Rest Haven Nursing Home in Steinbach, MB on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2008 at the age of 84.She is survived by her husband, David Dueck, and her children: John Dueck, Ruth Dueck, Allan (Eva) Dueck, Marlene (Bert) DueckSpeers, Carl (Luella) Dueck, Peter (Rose) Dueck, Janice (Mel) Holland, Alvina Dueck, Tom (Lucy) Dueck and Larry (Esther) Dueck. Besides these ten children, she is also survived by 19 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, three sisters and two brothers. She was predeceased by her parents Peter and Elizabeth Kroeker of Rosenort as well as by two sisters who died in infancy.Mother was an amazing woman. She was born in Meade, Kansas on July 22, 1923 and moved to Canada with her family in 1937. She became a Christian at a young age and was baptized upon the confession of her faith when she was 17 years old. She married the love of her life, David Dueck on April 7, 1949. God blessed their marriage with 10 children.Besides raising 10 children she also found time to pursue other interests such as the church sewing circle, sewing classes, gardening and entertaining guests. She was an excellent baker, even selling her famous brown bread to earn some extra spending money, and she loved cooking. She always knew how to stretch a dollar to make a delicious meal.Mom was committed to her faith. She believed in prayer and prayed daily for each of her children by name. It was a special treat to hear her pray for her children. Her greatest desire that she often expressed was that all her children and grandchildren would one day be together in heaven. Her prayers were always marked by thanksgiving and a deep trust in God. Mom was very generous and always giving. In one word, she was selfless. Mom had a big heart with a huge capacity to love people. Her heart held a special spot for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was also a very positive person. Even after her fall when she broke her hip and ended up on a wheelchair she said she was walking. Mom was a very sociable person and loved going on outings. Another highlight for her was the singing programs at the Rest Haven Nursing Home and she loved to sing with her family.Our mom was extremely grateful for the excellent care provided by the Rest Haven staff and she rarely missed an opportunity to express it. We would like to join her in saying a big thank-you to the whole staff at the Rest Haven.The funeral service was held at the Evangelical Mennonite Church, Steinbach on Monday, Jan. 7 at 11 a.m. with interment at the Kleefeld EMC Cemetery.
