Cedar Rapids Gazette, April 27, 1947 Iowa Deaths _ Atkins - Mrs. Rine Simmer, 89, died at 7:30 a.m. Saturday at her home in Atkins. Born at Norway Dec. 1, 1857, she is survived by three sons, four daughters, 16 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Stephen's Lutheran church here. Burial will be in St Stephen's cemetery. Friends may call at the family home Monday evening. ______________________________________ The Benton County, Fremont Township, Iowa, 1860 census lists name as Catharine Muller, age as 2, and birthplace as Iowa. The 1870 census lists name as Katie Miller, age as 12, and birthplace as Iowa. Per Benton County Clerk of Court Book D Page 104, Marriage license dated Oct 4, 1875 listed C H Watterman and Catherine Miller and witnessed by John Miller because Catherine was a minor. Certificate of Marriage indicated they were married Oct 5, 1875 in Fremont Township, Benton County, by G Horn, Minister of the Gospel, filed Nov 5, 1875. G Horn was at one time minister of St. Stephen's Lutheran Church in Atkins, IA. Per 1880 census, Ringgold County, Poe Township, Iowa, page 40, supervisors district No. 8, enumeration district 20-1, dwelling #315, Henry Watterman, age 26, farmer, born in Germany as were both his father and mother, Katie Watterman, age 20, housekeeper, born in Iowa, father born in Germany, mother born in Switzerland, and William Watterman, age 3, born in Iowa. Henry possibly born in Velle, New York, returned to Germany to live with his parents until 1869, settled in Benton County for 15 years, then to Cumming County, NE where he died in 1936. Per Eric (Rick) Wattermann, Henry left Benton County in 1884 with son William and moved to Cumming Co, Nebraska. Henry remarried Dec 8, 1883 to Mary Helen Eliza Hille in Cumming Co. Per Ringgold County Recorders Office in Mount Ayr, Iowa, Book B Page 107, Katherine and Thomas J Young were married Feb 12, 1883. License was applied for on Feb 10, 1883, Thomas J Young age was 23, Katie Watterman age was 25. Wedding was solemnized by J W Tedford, Minster, on Feb 12, 1883. Per the 1885 census, Katie Miller age 27, and John W Miller (Young) lived in section 34 which is just south of section 27 where future husband Rinehold lived. Per Cedar Rapids Clerk of Court Book 4, Page 194, Rinehart (Rinehold) Simmer, Benton County farmer, age 25 years, born in St. Louis, son of Adolph Simmer and Katie Schaad, and Katie Young nee Miller, age 29 years, born in Benton County, daughter of John Miller and Mary Schaad, were married in Marion, Iowa, Mar 2, 1886, witness by J. W. Case and M. B. Allen, JP.
