Read More	Katherine Myram Smith March 21,1918-August 26,2012 Funeral services for Katherine Myram Smith, 94, of Pukwana will be Friday, August 31, 2012 at 10:30 am at the United Church of Christ in Chamberlain with burial in Riverview Cemetery at Chamberlain. Katherine Myram Shrake was born March 21, 1918 to Morris and Mary Ellen (Longden) Shrake in Brule County, SD. Katherine grew up on a farm south of Chamberlain and attended Cable country school through 8th grade, graduating from Chamberlain High School in 1936. After graduating, she worked for various neighbors helping cook for the harvesting crews and farm workers. During this time she met the love of her life, Tom. Katherine married Thomas M. Smith on March 4, 1938 at Alexandria, SD. To this union eight children were born. Katherine was a stay at home mother and after their eighth child started school, she began working at various odd jobs including housekeeping and hotel work. She later took a full time position as the cook at the Community Bailey Hospital and retired after over 20 years. During her retirement years, she worked many years as a volunteer for Senior Meals in the Pukwana and Kimball area. She received many awards for her dedication and commitment. Katherine belonged to the Royal Neighbors of America, Senior Citizens Center, and also enjoyed being active with various card clubs. She enjoyed various hobbies such as gardening, canning, and baking. She also had a special interest in sewing quilts, embroidery stitching, and crocheting afghans for her family.Katherine passed away on August 26, 2012 at Avera Brady in Mitchell at the age of 94 years. She is survived by her three sons Thomas J. (Shirley) Smith of Sioux Falls, SD; Steven R. (Patricia) Smith of Melbourne Beach, FL; Michael R. Smith of Kuna, ID; three daughters June (William) Priebe of Sioux Falls, SD; Joyace Reeves of Chamberlain, SD; and JoAnn (David) Doering of Mitchell, SD; brother Roy (Carol) Shrake of Duluth, MN; sister-in-law Florence Wilson of Mitchell, SD; 22 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren, and 16 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Morris and Mary Ellen Shrake; husband Thomas M. Smith; two sons Larry M. Smith and Dallas T. Smith; one sister Carrie Shrake; one brother Ralph Shrake; and two granddaughters Judy Larson and Pamela Priebe.
