Read More	Katherine Rosalie Gilroy-McGuire passed away at York Hospital on March 5, 2015 in York, Maine, due to complications from cardiovascular disease. She was 67 years old. Katherine (Kathy) was born in Spalding, Nebraska on September 14, 1947, the daughter of Alvin Gilroy and Dolores Rutledge-Gilroy. She was raised on a farm southwest of Spalding where she attended the local rural grade school. Kathy graduated from Spalding Academy in 1965 where she was a proficient athlete in volleyball and swimming. She attended the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, then finished her academic career graduating from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a Bachelor of Science in Interior Design in 1972. In Denver, she worked in the interior design industry before returning to Nebraska and marrying Dan McGuire of Greeley, Nebraska in 1973. In Lincoln, she continued working in the interior design field and later began her life long career in human services in the Lincoln and Omaha area. Kathy was a champion for the rights of people with disabilities through her work at Region V Services in Wahoo, the Arc of Lincoln, the Arc of Nebraska, and other non-profit organizations. She was a true professional, dedicated to the work of advocating for the disabled by shaping progressive state and national policies, and carrying out strategic programs for the Arc. As a young woman, Kathy enjoyed horseback riding, hunting and fly fishing. Later in life she became a passionate advocate for animals and enjoyed exploring with her dogs. Kathy was a proud mother of her two sons. She was endlessly dedicated to her friends and family and will be missed greatly. She was especially known for her absolute integrity, loyalty, friendliness and quick wit. Kathy is survived by: sons, Colin McGuire and Brian McGuire; brother, Thomas Gilroy; sister, Betty Jean Gilroy-Amm; nieces: Julie Masters and Linda Amm-Beach; as well as multiple great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by: her father, Alvin Gilroy, and her mother, Dolores Rutledge-Gilroy. Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, March 14, 2015, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Spalding, Nebraska, with Fr. Matthew Koperski officiating. Interment in Calvary Cemetery, Lincoln, Nebraska.
