BERTSCH, 85, PIONEER RESIDENT OF BISMARCK, DIES Mrs. Katherine Bertsch, 85, for 49 years a resident of Bismarck, died Saturday at the home of her son, Postmaster Christian Bertsch, 602 Sixth St. Death was due to infirmities of old age. At her bedside were three children, Andrew, rural Bismarck, Christian and Mrs. John Reinhart, Minneapolis. A fourth child, Katherine, died in infancy, and her husband, Christian, died in 1924. Until the funeral the body will lie in state at the Perry Funeral home. Mrs. Bertsch was born Katherine Schatz in Alsace Lorraine, Germany, Jan. 5, 1852. She was married to Christian Bertsch, Sr., Dec. 22, 1872, and came to Bismarck with her husband in 1888. She was one of the charter members of the Bismarck Baptist church and was active in church work until recent years when her health began to fail. Besides her three children, Mrs. Bertsch leaves two brothers, John Schatz of Elgin, Andrew Schatz of San Francisco, and a sister, Mrs. Peter Bauer, Leola, S. D. There are also 13 grandchildren, Mrs. Glenn Roberts, Lydia, Matilda and Albert Bertsch, Bismarck; Andrew and Walter, Rural Bismarck; Mrs. Gordon Didra, Waseca, Minn.; Mrs. Ernest LaSalle, Mrs. John Peterson, Edna Reichert and Edward Bertsch, all of Minneapolis; and Mrs. Dewey Moricle, Mankato, Minn.
