Read More	OBITUARY - THE STERLING SUN - 01 November 1934 - front page LONG TIME RESIDENT CALLED Mrs. Katherine Tyler Skinkle, a long time resident was called to her reward last Friday, October 26, following an illness which had kept her bedfast for the past two months but she had been in failing health for the past three years. Katherine Skinkle was born May 27, 1859 at Geneva, WI being the oldest daughter. In 1867 the family came to Nebraska and homesteaded near Elk Creek later moving to a farm three miles east of Sterling. The family was among the first early settlers of this community. In 1877 she was married to Dr. G.L. Skinkle and three children were born to this union, Geo. L. of Wilber, Evelyn A. Endres of Crab Orchard and Belle Elizabeth who passed away in 1905. At the age of 30 she was left a widow and lived the most of her life in Sterling where she raised her family. In 1931 she went to Lincoln to make her home with her brother, Charles. She leaves to mourn her passing, her children, a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Barger of DeWitt, two brothers, Charles L. of Lincoln and Frank A. of St. Mary, and two grandchildren Dr. G.J. Skinkle of Lincoln and Margaretha Endres of Crab Orchard. The funeral services were held Saturday morning in the Catholic church at Crab Orchard with Rev. Thomas Barden of Tecumseh preaching the funeral sermon. Burial was made in the family lot in Sterling.
