When she arrived at Ft. Scott she received a message from Mr. Dauron stating that she had died at 2:15 o'clock. Miss Cook had many dear friends in Cherokee and St. Louis. Funeral services were held at the Lupton Undertaking parlors in St. Louis and the lovely flowers showed the esteem she was held in there. While visiting here a short time ago, she had the flu, but returned to her work too soon and pneumonia followed. Katherine Z. Cook was born in Neosho County, Kansas, September 27th, 1868, where she grew to young womanhood. She died in St. Louis, March 9, 1923. She was a teacher in the public schools for several years, later she went to Los Angeles and took up nursing and graduated at the California Hospital. After nursing for several years, she returned and took a post-graduate course where she still held her membership in the alumni association. She followed her chosen profession for about thirty years. She loved her work and even though frail in body, worked unceasingly, and returned only a week ago last Tuesday from the care of a pneumonia case. Upon reaching the McKinley Home for nurses, where she made her home for the past five years or more, she had to be helped to her room. Everything was done for her by the loving hands of the associates, but she fell asleep at 2:15 Friday morning. She was a Christian woman and awaits the resurrection morning. The immediate relatives are two sisters and one brother. One sister, Mrs. Frankie Dauron of Cherokee, is well known as an old resident of this community. One sister, Mrs. Cora Turkington lives at Seattle and one brother, H.F. Cook, lives at Delta, Colorado. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Presbyterian Church of Cherokee, conducted by Rev. C.M. Mills of Emporia, Pastor at Large of the Presbyterian Church.
