Read More	OTTUMWA — Kathleen Brown, of Ottumwa, passed away at Good Samaritan Society — Ottumwa on Jan. 29, 2015. She had been a patient at the Good Samaritan Center since Aug. 25, 2006. Kay was born March 25, 1933, to Dewey and Bernice Beggs Grim of rural Pulaski. She attended rural schools in Davis County and graduated from Pulaski High School in 1950. She attended Iowa State Teachers College (now UNI) and received her two-year teaching certification in 1952. She taught three years in Winfield and one year in Ames before marrying Samuel Burr Brown on Aug. 12, 1956. She continued her degree work during summer sessions at University of Iowa, then taught in West Liberty for one year. Kay completed her bachelor’s degree at Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois, in June 1958, after which she and Burr moved to Ottumwa. During her youth, Kay helped out on the family farm, played basketball for Pulaski High School and attended Pulaski Mennonite Church in rural Pulaski. She taught school at Pickwick, Douglas and Eisenhower schools in Ottumwa, retiring in 1988. She was active in the First Methodist Church and Sunday School, a Sunday School teacher and later a member of Merry Homemakers Sunday School Class at Willard Street Methodist Church. Kay had served as a Brownie Scout leader in earlier years, was a member of AAUW for several years, golfed in Ladies League and Two-Ball events and was active in the Ottumwa Civil War Round Table, having presented several programs. Kay’s family, husband, children and grandchildren were her greatest love here on earth. She enjoyed traveling and visiting family and historical sites with her family. Kay had an inquisitive nature and boundless desire to learn about a variety of different subjects. She was an avid reader with a love of literature. She also enjoyed being in several different bridge groups over the years. Kathleen is survived by her husband, Burr; children, Michael (Linda Byrne) Brown of Mendota Heights, Minnesota, and Cheryl (William) Ladas of Mesa, Arizona; and grandchildren, Alyssa, Julia and Elizabeth Brown and Anthony and Kaitlyn Ladas. She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant sister, Elizabeth Rose; two sisters, Mary Hayworth and Christine Clark; and a brother, William Grim. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Willard Street Methodist Church; Rev. Leila Disburg officiating. Burial will be in Ottumwa Cemetery.
