A funeral service will be held on Friday February 10, 2017 at 10:30AM at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in De Smet, with Father Richard Baumberger officiating. A visitation will be held at the church on Thursday evening from 5-7:00PM with the rosary at 6:30PM. Burial will be held at St. Thomas Catholic Cemetery at De Smet, SD. Kathleen Lorraine Widman was born December 17, 1917 in Lambert MT. to Thomas and Marie (Sturgeon) Coughlin. When she was three weeks old, the family moved back to De Smet, SD. She was raised on a farm four miles north of town and attended rural school. She graduated from De Smet High School in 1935. In 1936, she married Warren Widman at the St. Thomas Aquinas rectory in De Smet. The couple farmed Southwest of De Smet for twenty years before moving to town and buying the Coast to Coast store which they operated for 16 years before retiring in 1972. After Warren had passed in year 2000 she was able to live in her own home until 2014. Throughout her life she was a very avid reader, loved to travel, garden, and go camping. She was baptized, confirmed, married and a lifelong member of the St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren, one daughter, Julie, and a granddaughter, Diane. Survivors include 3 sons, Paul (Betty) Widman of Mitchell, SD, Dennis (Pat) Widman of Broomfield, CO, and George (Gail) Widman of Sioux Falls, SD; four daughters, Jeanne (Marlon) Kruse of Tulsa, OK, Margaret Mogck of Silver Lake, WI, Pat (Rudy) Douthit of Loveland CO, and Connie (Bill) Halverson of De Smet, SD; twenty-two grandchildren, forty-seven great- grandchildren, and five great- great –grandchildren; one sister, Audrey Rodney of De Smet, SD; and one brother, Dick Coughlin of Rochester NY. - Osthus Funeral Home
